What are you guys on about????
The ref applied the rules: Suarez blocked the ball with his hands, he got a RED CARD and that gave Ghana a penalty shot with 10 seconds to go in the match.
The Ghana striker hit the crossbar. HIS fault.
Suarez will now miss the semi-final game vs the Netherlands.
Then it went to penalties and the Uruguay goalie stopped TWO shots.
Give it a rest, no one was cheated. The only people that Ghana can blame is themselves for missing a golden opportunity with that penalty with 10 seconds to go and then for failing in the shootout.
The rules of international football were applied correctly here. There is no controversy.
I am however sad for Ghana as I would have liked to see them go through. |

When it goes to penalty kicks, EVERYONE is cheated.
They should bring back the golden goal. |

| I don't mind. Ghana basically cheated repeatedly in the American game. I was sickened by the intense time wasting lies. |

My god, bring out the cheating accusations if your team loses. And people claim Koreans are sore losers.
Just accept your team wasn't that good, or unlucky, that day. It's sports. |

nope, golden goal was a shockingly bad idea. I wouldn't mind the idea of the silver goal. You score in the first half of extra time then it keeps going until the end of the first half, if you are still losing then it's over!
Penalties are a horrible way to go out but at least you had a fair crack at it. with golden goal you have no chance of getting back into the game |

They were cheated out of a goal. If they weren't then what's his nuts wouldn't have been given a red card and sent off. Ghana can blame Suarez, because his cheating cost them the game. How can having a 100% chance at success taken away and replaced with 90% chance of success be considered fair? |

I was rooting for Ghana but the ref made the correct call.
Saurez cheated but he was caught and Ghana was compensated with a kick.
It's not fair but it's the rules. |

I am of 2 minds on this. Depends on what your definition of "is" is.
On one hand, intentionally breaking the rules to prevent a goal could be considered cheating.
On the other hand, it's not like he tried to sneak something in and get away with it. He did it right out in the open, and he knew he would have to accept the penalties that the rules have in place. He worked within the system, much like NBA players do when they hack Shaq and send him to the free throw line. |

What is your solution?
Allowing an instand goal?
Hanging Suarez from the crossbar and letting Ghana hit him with sticks?
The rule is simple: hand ball in the box is a red card and an automatic penalty shot.
The ref applied the rules correctly.
Poor Ghana missed the golden chance of a glorious penalty with 10 seconds remaining.
Now suarez, arguably Ururguays best striker, will miss the semi-final game.
Personally, I think the rule should be two game for handling the ball like he did but you cannot just give the other a team a goal for that.
What Suarez did was unsportsman like and he fully deserves to be blamed....outside of that, the rules were applied. |

Earlier this morning, I woke up in front of the TV and started watching the Ghana versus Uruguay worldcup game. What happened was not right. Ghana would have scored the winning goal if Suarez had not illegally blocked the ball with his hands.
I am not black or African just in case some of you thought so due to the topic. No, I am for fairness. And in my opinion, losing a game as well as not being able to continue in the worldcup games in part because a player on the other team cheated, in my opinion, is just wrong. |
I totally agree. Uruguay won by cheating, theres not much more you can say about it. I was disgusted.
The referee should've awarded a goal.
The ball was going straight into the net until suarez handed it away. A penalty is not really adequate compensation because you still have to beat the goalkeeper.
Suarez has shown his poor character in this WC with several such incidents. Against SA he put on a show of diving at the slightest touch and the referree rewarded it all too.
its not really enjoyable to see them constantly play with such cynicism and illegalities. One reason I'm all for new referreeing technology.
Bunch of south american gangsters in the tradition of "hand of God" maradona. |
It is disgusting, but the ref gave a penalty and he missed it. No more to say, you cant do anything more. He has been a total *beep* since though taking about the 'hand of god' and so on. That's South American teams for you.
But life is life. He will be missed in the next game and hopefully Holland will annihilate them. |
