hmm well if i'd known that before i bought my tickets 2 weeks ago then of course i would fly into hong kong..but i don't really want to buy another plane ticket now..
also if i went to extend my visa and they started giving me hassle then i would have plenty of time to go to hong kong and buy another visa..right?
the only problem i could envisage would be if i got to beijing airport and they started hassling me...but they wouldn't do that i think (hope)..i mean their embassy gave me a visa to enter after all..
i'm not being fixed minded..i am taking in everything people are telling me and trying to make the best decisions.. |
Haha I like people who ask questions and then sort of argue with the answers. I guess people have a built in they will do it their way mechanism. Of course you won't have trouble getting in on your 30 day visa. But your extension might be tougher than changing your plane tickets.
if you do try to extend dont do it in hk. do it in shekou at the ferry terminal. I have helped lots of people sort out visas here and it is tough now but shekou has worked for everyone. Hong kong visa agents can take 3-4 days now and then you have the expense of being in hk. |

| There is no logic or consticency to anything official done in China. Why are they making travelling more difficult? People want to get out of China, not in. This is one of the reasons I dont want to live in that country again. |

well i'm not sure i was arguing with any answers..i was telling you that my tickets were already bought..and you have now told me that i should have no troubles entering..it is just whether i can extend. it seems that the regualtions change from week to week and also from town to town..i have read that you can apply for a visa extension from any town..and that in smaller towns they'll give you a more generous extension.
anyway i only need an extension of about 2 and a half weeks..i think my best course of action is to just continue with my trip as planned..try to extend as soon as i leave beijing and then if it isn't possible i go to shekou like you said..it seems logical to me anyway..right?
again thanks for the advice all |

It seems that in West China yiu should have no trouble getting an extension. As far away from the East Coast as possible. Just try to be in Yunnan when your visa runs out. If you have to wait around in Lijiang or Dali for a few days it will hardly be a problem. They generally wont extend your visa till its nearly running out. |

| I loved Yunnan too; the farther away I was from the predominantly Han areas in the east, the better I enjoyed China. If you don't want to go to the trouble and expense of figuring out arrangements to Tibet you can bus around to some of the border villages in western Sichuan province, that was by far the highlight of my trip. Litang was my favorite but the bus station lady is notoriously, brutally, hilariously cranky. I made the mistake of interrupting her while she was playing mahjong with her friends, and for a moment I wasn't sure whether I would make it out alive. It's rough traveling but well worth it. |
