I'm flying to Osaka for 3 days 4 nights - anyone have any tips on what the best things to see/do in there in a few days? Is it worth it to take day trips to Kyoto and/or Nara?

I went to Osaka a couple weeks ago for a long weekend and we did a day trip to Kyoto which was definitely worth it!! It was only about an hour by train from Osaka.

We liked Osaka, but we found Kyoto much more appealing and were glad we went there for the day.

used to live in Japan also.....absolutely 100% worth it to go to Kyoto and Nara. 2 days in Kyoto and 1 day in Osaka. For me, Osaka is very much like a Korean city and there wasn't a great deal of things to do there other than Osaka Castle and if you want to see Universal Studios/aquarium. for cultural stuff, temples etc Kyoto is a must.

Osaka is the most fun city in Japan!!! It looks bland at first, but there is a LOT to do... not so much culturally, but mostly nightlife and food.

* Aquarium (worth checking out)
* Osaka Castle

* Shopping and nightlife in Namba and Shinsaibashi
* Eat Takoyaki and Okonomiyaki
* Amerika-Mura
* Triangle Park at night
* Spa World
* Dotombori Bridge at night

*Take a day trip to Nara to see temples and pet deer
*Take a day trip to Kyoto

I have a few posts about it:

My fave youth hostel is this one... very cheap and perfect location:
