Hi everyone,
I'm keen to go to the mud festival from Gwangju, Jeollanam-do. I've searched the net and this site and can't seem to find out how I can get there from Gwangju. Anybody got any ideas?
Cheers |

| I would imagine you can take a bus direct from the big bus terminal in Gwangju. If not, take a bus to Jeonju and then change to a bus for Boryeong. |

From Gwangju, bus connection isn't that convenient. Try trains instead.
You need to transfer at Iksan for trains bound for Yongsan via Gunsan. Your stop is DAECHEON.
Go to http://www.korail.com/en/rv/pr21100/w_pr21110.jsp (Korail English website)
and designate either 'Gwangju' or 'Gwangjusongjeong' as your point of departure, depending on where you live.
You must switch from 'Direct' to 'Transfer' before you hit the 'Inquiry' button. |

It is indeed possible to transfer at Jeonju by bus, but it needs to be reminded that Jeonju->Boryeong bus service runs only twice a day, at 11:00 and 17:00 (and v.v. from Boryeong, at 08:30 and 14:30) |

Thanks. Seems as though the train may be the best option.
With regard accommodation, do you think it would be okay to travel up there without having booked something? |

Instead of starting new thread, I'll continue on this one. This is the site, but no info about transport and rooming are available. If you notice in the picture, it's a tiny village with little or no facilities to accommodate a few thousand tourists so maybe camping or just sleeping under the stars is what people will do. As for transportation, it would be logical you break out a map of Korea and geographically navigate the buses and trains using the largest towns or cities as transfer points. An example might be to go to Daejeon, Seosan, or Cheonan to transfer to a Boryeong bound bus or train. If in Seoul, I know you would go to Central City terminal in Kangnam to get a direct bus. It is highly advisable to buy ticket in advance and then as soon as you arrive in Boryeong, buy your ticket for when you want to return home. I do not know if they are operating extra services to handle the load, but it would seem logical bus companies will.
Where would you secure a wallet and keys to go play in the mud on those blow up slides and party? |

There are plenty of local hotels in that area. I'm not sure how many people are expected to attend. I just stayed at one of the hotels out there two weeks. I can't remember the name but it had a waterpark attached to it.
I know the event is coming up soon so I will try and look for the info...rooms can get costly...I think it was just under 200,000W for a regular room and 200+ for a deluxe room with a western bed. |
