Hello,

I have a job offer at a university and the contract states that I can live in a studio style apartment on campus but I would have to pay the utility bills ie:phone, gas, heating, electricity and maintenance costs. I don't agree with paying these fees as I am living on campus and I think the utilities should be covered by the university with the exception of the phone bill.

At my last university I lived on campus and I paid for nothing..and had internet, tv, air-con, etc..

I would like to know what other peoples opinions or situations are regarding this. If anyone else has to pay utilities on campus.

Pay up, move out on your own dime, or go back to your old university. This is a common practice.

I would say your last university is the exception to the rule. Pretty much anywhere you work you are going to be expected to pay utilities. The only thing is you might be able to slide by without internet if there is wireless available on campus. If so, you are essentially talking about water, electric, gas and maintaince fee. Depending on how much heat you use in the winter and whether you have an air conditioner that you run during the summer, it really shouldn't be THAT much. I prefer to collect and pay the bills on my own (I think most people do the same). You can just take them to the bank and they will deduct it out of your account.

Well thanks for clearing that up. I guess I didn't know what a good deal I had at my last university. Just curious but if someone could enlighten me as to approx. how much utilities run it would help me out.

Water 10-15,000

Electric (depending on how much you use) 15-30,000

Gas (again depending on how much you use) 10-70,000

Maintenance fee 10-50,000

I'd say 45,000-150,000...it really depends on how high the maintenance fee is.

Hi,

I work at a university an hour outside of Seoul and live on campus. I don't pay rent and I don't pay utilities. Judging from the feed back here my situation isn't normal but they do exist.
