Anyone know much about the area?

Iv been living in incheon, and movine to seoul in September

Also, i need to find a place to live around there

Know of any good agencies or buildings etc..?

All I know is that "gireum" means "oil". Doesn't sound very promising.

I live not far from there, I live closer to Hyehwa. It's not a bad place, it's a little far out, but it's not as far out as other parts of Seoul. There's lots of good shopping to be had there, at Mia Samgeori there are several department stores, lots of markets, smaller stores, etc. And it's only about 10-15 minutes from Hyehwa, which also has lots of restaurants, bars, theaters, and shopping. You're also only 20-30 minutes from Jongno.

Itaewon and/or Shinchon are maybe a good half hour - 45 minutes away. It takes a good hour to get anywhere south of the river (at least).

I also used to live in Incheon and I like living here a lot more, overall it's a step up.

Gireum station is a little shoddy, but it's being developed as a "new town" so expect prices to increase and it to clean up a little bit. As of now, it is the site of what was once the largest redlight district in Seoul (Miari texas). Still in operation. But as a previous poster mentioned, it's convenient enough to get to a lot of places in Seoul.

Gireum has a new area called Gireum New Town, which is brand new and clean. The rest of Gireum is regular Korean neighborhood. Also, one of the most famous redlight districts is in Gireum. It is for Koreans, not for you, waygookin!

I work here... seems completely dead to me. Very residential, though I haven't walked around much besides walking between the subway station and my school.

And the 'red light' district is mixed in with flower stores, salons, etc. Doesn't strike me as a fun area at all, though sometimes red light districts sound that way.

I don't know about the bus, but it takes an hour to get to Itaewon and probably about the same to get to Hongdae or Gangnam on the subway. Maybe a little less.

Gireum may be the only station I haven't visited on the northern part of line four. I always assumed it was because there was nothing there. Unless you're getting a great deal on your apartment, try and move closer south to Hyewha, Sungshin's or the other women's university, or move closer north up into Suyu or even better Chang-dong and Nowon.

Actually, don't live in Suyu... that's terrible advice.

I worked there for a year and lived near Sungshin Women's University subway station, which is one stop South. I'd recommend Sungshin as a pretty good place to live - I always thought it had a nice atmosphere.

As has been said above - it's fairly convenient for the centre of the city - it doesn't take anywhere near an hour by subway - and it's easy to get to Hyehwa too, which is a bonus.
