In addition to be far and a good 20 minute walk uphill from Anguk station, it's not very organised. Apart from the sign, you couldn't tell it was an embassy, no guards and completely open. We just walked in, no metal detectors, no leaving your cell phones, nothing.
The embassy and consular section are all together and we got there at 2pm, they opened again at 2.30pm I suppose their lunch started later. Pretty rundown, with just info in Vietnamese, we were ushered into a room, where we we given a barely readable application form and told to fill it out.
They later photocopied our passports. They started copying the wrong page of my husband and when we told them, they said, what does it matter? Um, well, the page that they were copying wasn't correct or valid, so it did matter.
THen they stapled my photocopy to my husband's application form because the guy was busy talking on the phone, talking to a woman, and trying to staple things. I had to ask him three times how much it cost.
By the way, it's 84,000 and takes four days to get it. Add that to the 8000 it cost in subway fees, it's better to just buy it online for 40 bucks at places like this http://www.vietnamvisapro.com/ . Cheaper and faster.

Why does the lack of guards, metal detectors, and being allowed to keep your cell phone bother you?
I got my visa there with no trouble at all. |

You've got to be an American.
They're pretty much the only embassies that have all that. Most others don't, including mine, the Australian Embassy. I guess you haven't actually been to embassies other than the US and Vietnamese ones. |

I'm curious as to how this service plans to pay the 80 dollar visa fee for an American citizen when they're only charging 40 bucks. |

In some countries the Korean embassy isn't much better. Like another poster said, all those high security features are pretty much limited to American embassies/consulates. Most other countries aren't afraid of being attacked by people coming in off the street. |

Did you happen to ask why the info at the Vietnamese Embassy was "just in Thai?" |

The cost is the issue. Lack of metal detectors, guards, and keeping cell phones means lack of safety. Granted, mayb e because it's a smaller embassy that explains it, but still, it was completely WIDE open, anyone could have walked in.
Yes, I'm american, but also hold two other passports. AS for the info being in Vietnamese, it's the Vietnamese Embassy in Korea. It should be in at least Vietnamese and Korean.
Just as FYI message: Get your VN visa through the internet, it costs less than 40 bucks that way and you can get it in half the time.

I believe it's more expensive because you have to pay the embassy fee.
If you check out online VN visas or VOA for VN, most places charge 16 to 20 for a service fee and then you pay the immigration officert 25 when you arrive. Much cheaper than 84,000 plus subway or transport fees. |

I accompanied a couple friends for them to get their Vietnam Visa.
In the waiting room were like 40 Vietnamese. We thought we'd be waiting there forever. After about 15 minutes of waiting, my friend went into the Interview room to ask about the VISA's. The embassy guy handed them the application and said not to worry about all the people waiting. My friends filled out the paperwork, handed it to the guy, he stamped it a few times, and they had their visa within 10 minutes.
So, if you are going there JUST for your visa, I recommend poking you head into the office and telling them. You probably won't have to wait in any line. |

Yep, you're right, no line. But we have to go back on the 12th to actually get the visa. |
