Hey, I'm looking for a place to pick up Monopoly, Risk, and Clue in English (for a summer camp).
I've done some searching for these alleged board game rooms, but I have yet to find a number, proper address or web site.
Is there a place to order games in this country... like a game and hobby shop? |

The Board Game Cafe were a real fad. Loved them when they where here. A few are sticking around. I think there is one in the COEX mall that sells some games. Otherwise your best bet is to go to your local English Book store. They have a good chance of having the Monopoly or the Scrabble.
If not order online. Where I do not know!
The Clue is available at the Toy store but will likely be in Korean. Check out Homeplus and Emarts there is a slim chance they might have a board game or two in English. Slim.

Do you have access to some good printing facilities? If so, I can send you some files that you can print out and make your own boards, cards, etc.
I used to play Monopoly with little kids in Korea. When we had game time, that was one of the most popular games. I have a Photoshop file that I made where I can stick in different photos of faces for the different money denominations. Even if you buy a board, it's really worth printing up a set of money with your students' faces on them. |

Konkuk must have really liked them, because I can spit on 3 from my place. There are still plenty around. When you walk around, look up. I find they tend to be on the 3rd or 4th floor of places. |

I recently saw the Korean versions of Monopoly and Clue at Homeplus. The only difference for Clue is the labels on the rooms and cards. You could easily relabel them.
With Monopoly, if you relabel the properties on the board, you can print out a set of English cards. I have a set of cards in JPG format if you want them.
At one of my previous jobs, they had nice printing facilities and let me print out as much as I wanted - color ink, colored paper, card paper, laminating machine, large paper sizes. I made up some 1mx1m sized game boards for popular games. The super sized boards were really good for working with kids sitting around a table (or on the floor).
The boards are the hardest to print out, so if you can get a Korean board and relabel it, it's probably easier than making one. But the cards for these games are easily printed out. In fact, if you print out your own cards, you can modify them to include pictures of your students or local things that they are familiar with. (My Clue board had an English classroom and a play ground, for example.) |

my first PS had copies of Clue Jr and a few other games... given what a b*tch y first coteacher was, i appropriated a few of said games and gave them to a teacher I worked with at my first job at a hagwon.
she was stating her own hagwon, and appreciated the gift. did I do something illegal? Probably.... but the co-teacher WAS a pain-in-the-ass... |
