I sent a friend request to my ex at least two weeks ago and, while she hasn't actually ignored me, it still says "awaiting friend confirmation" - which I have construed as ignoring, because she's obviously used facebook since then and is just letting the friend request sit there forever.

I thought we parted on reasonable terms, but perhaps not.

I snub people sometimes - generally using facebook's limited profile feature. former (adult) students, ex coworkers, and the like.

I've ignored friend requests and blocked former friends. There's some that can't see my wall, pictures I get tagged in and albums etc. It peeves me when Facebook changes its privacy settings every few months or so and I have to go doublecheck that Facebook isn't giving out info I don't want out there. Crossing my fingers that some Korean moms of my students don't actually believe I'll friend them on Facebook. Confused

A friend from high school won't friend me. I think he never forgave me for a VERY wayward phase I went through when I was 21 (8-9 years ago). I think about it sometimes. We were good friends, but maybe we were both a bit hotheaded, and sometimes we'd argue.

I really don't want to bug him, via mutual friends, because I mean, I guess I don't really even want to know what he thinks of me. But sometimes I think about it and it's kind of sad.

As for snubbing, I unfriended one person. I actually really dislike this person and only friended him when I realized I was friending everyone, and that Facebook friends doesn't equal real friends, so whatever. Then he mentioned once that he was going to come to Korea, then I panicked and thought he would start tracking me down through social clubs I belong to... like the time he got a job at the same place I worked.

I'm pretty sure that he didn't come to Korea. Sometimes he'll forward a "droll" msg to me via ordinary email, and his address is still connected to his job in Canada. Smile

Usually I defriend people who are not currently in my bubble or have not affected my life in a positive way, or who I realize I will never communicate with again because they either:

A.) Suck
B.) I met once
C.) No longer share common interests/communicate
D.) Suck
E.) Are from high school

I think it is pathetic when you defriend someone, ignore their new freidn request, and then they try 5 more times.

Get the picture.

Same situation, only I was 19/20 when I was a wild child. I tried to friend her once a couple of years ago. Her loss.

I do unfriend people that I don't talk to on a regular basis, though, and hate getting multiple re-friend requests. Every month or so I clean house on my account. Have we spoken in the past 3 months? If not, and if they're not family or good friends, I unfriend.

My little sister unfriended my mother! I'd created a fake account for her, because she's paranoid about social networking, and only wanted a way to keep in touch with me whilst I'm in Asia, and she only wanted to friend me, my sister, and one of her coworkers. 3 days later I noticed that my mom only had 2 (me and the friend), so I asked my sister what happened.

"She said I should change my profile picture because my cleavage showed. I don't need that <<modedit>>!"

I love you, sis Wink

I think its pathetic if someone can't get over a minor phase from 15 years ago. Particularly if you were good friends mostly.

I'd like to think that old friends have grown as people and learned to see the big picture but its not always the case. Also there are some parochial old friends who seem daunted by your wealth of experience travelling the world, they're still living on the same street as 10 years back.

In some ways facebook is not exactly the blessing it appears to be.

I have removed about 500 people from my friends list! Reason being
1) they were doing nothing with their lives
2) had retarded updates or were just weird in nature
3) were too much in my business )i.e. writing essays on my status updates
4) or those who would talk about what I posted on FB in person

I did all that last year, pretty amazing how big of a role facebook plays in the life of a foreigner in Korea. It caused so much drama in my former town that I have resolved to NOT adding new ppl I meet in Korea on it! Funny thing is in my old town those who were on FB 24/7 were middle aged ppl...PATHETIC!

Begs the question then, why did you add them in the first place?
Was it just so you would be able to show off loads of connections and look popular? Cos it sounds like you barely knew them to begin with.

My request was ignored by someone I went to HS with but was only loosely acquainted with. No hard feelings, they probably really only do add their friends.

I didn't add my mom. In fact, I made an entire flickr account to share pictures with her so I wouldn't need to add her. I love her, but I really just... gah!

Plus if I added her it would have put more pressure on my sisters. I think it was a group decision.

She might not have noticed. Simple as that. I get requests and don't realise -because I often use my mam's creaky old computer and the software can barely handle facebook. Most times it folds after a few minutes.
