My girl and I will be going to Osaka at the end of the month and would appreciate any recommendations for places to stay.

Muchly grateful.

I always stay at Koma Guesthouse. Super cheap, clean, and amazing location (in Namba, where all the excitement is):

The staff is great. If you're looking for something more upscale than I cannot help, that's the only place I've stayed! So many times that they know my name.

I stayed here. Comfortable, and in a great location near all the action. I think I paid about $70/night

Thanks for the replies.

Ciccone Youth - I checked the website for the hostel you recommended. It looks great but I prefer to share a bed with my girlfriend. If I ever go on my own though I know where I will be staying. Very Happy

Anospi - I had a look at the Dotonbori hotel site but they don't have any rooms available for the dates we will be there. It's such a shame because it looks like a terrific hotel.

Thank you both again for taking the time to help.

If anyone else has recommendation please let me know.

I stayed at Weekly Mansion Osaka and recommend it:
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g298566-d631898-Reviews-Weekly_Mansion_Osaka_at_Otemae-Osaka_Osaka_Prefecture_Kinki.html

It was ~73,000 KRW/night for two people at the time.

Very clean and in good condition, despite the ghetto sounding name. It's "apartment style". So unusually large room with a kitchenette/cutlery/pots&pans/etc. However - like an apartment they don't change the linens or enter your room at all. Except to clean it for the *next* guests. None of which I cared about one way or the other, it was just among the cheapest hotels I could find in Osaka that had very good reviews.

About a 5 minute walk from the subway. No on-site amenities to speak of.

I don't think it was near any major tourist sites, but with the subway it doesn't matter much. And Osaka is pretty lacking in major tourist sites anyway.

Wow, lots of questions about Osaka hotels/hostels today Very Happy

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Taiyo in May 2009 and loved it. Very cheap, about 3000 yen per night. Rooms are quite small but have tatamis, free AC and a mini fridge in each room. Bathrooms are shared, and so is the bathing area, which has a wonderful large traditional bath. It's in a quiet part of the city not really near any sights or shopping, but Spa World is right across the street and the subway and train stations are close. We used this place as a base while exploring Kansai and found it to be very convenient.
