JD, make sure you just get the regular free shipping. It took less than a couple weeks! If you need proof for EPIK right now, ask them to scan it and email you a copy before they send it off.

I know that a PDF can be used in the initial application before the interview, but doesn't a notarised copy have to be sent away with the documents? I'm not sure if any solicitor/lawyer or notary public would notarise a copy of a document(especially one from a foreign country, like a tefl cert) without seeing the original first.

EPIK told me they just need proof now that you have one or are in progress (which I showed them) by August 1st I think it was, then just bring the original with you to orientation. You don't need to apostille and send it to them.

I can't even begin to tell you the trouble I'm having with this letter of "proof."

Apparently, EPIK needs the letter to state the expected end date, and that end date has to be before August 1. Unfortunately, ITTC won't write a letter saying that, since they can't guarantee that any student will finish by August 1 (or whatever day they say). This is creating a bunch of problems for me, since I'm still in the middle of the course.

My recruiter says that my provisional position will be dropped if I don't get this letter, so I have no idea what to do now. I've already run circles around my recruiter and Mark at ITTC trying to get this done (and with a 12 hour time difference, it makes it really hard).

Is anyone else having this problem? Has anyone figured out a solution/workaround?

SMOE.

My recruiter is gonna contact EPIK today and see if it's an issue, but from what she's saying, it doesn't look too good. The ironic part is, at the pace I'm going, I'll be finished by late next week. Which apparently, will be too late for SMOE.

gaaahhh!!!

You should also factor in the fact that it will take them almost a week to grade, depending how busy they are.

Here's how my TEFL Cert & EPIK went down, in summary:

Me: Hey *Recruiter*, I'm taking a TEFL course and I want to make sure EPIK is aware so I get the pay bump.

Recruiter: Send this to your TEFL company. They will fill it out and sign it. Email me back a scanned copy. *attaches EPIK PROOF OF ENROLLMENT TEMPLATE*

Me: No problem. *I get it filled out, send it back to recruiter*

Recruiter: EPIK said to bring your original to orientation, and that they just want a scan before you arrive.

Me: I had them scan it before they mailed it to me, here's the scanned copy!

Me: I received my actual TEFL, here's a scan. It's a little different with two real signatures, rather than digital signatures.

Recruiter: EPIK should accept this, just bring your actual cert to Korea.

-------

Maybe I should annoy him one last time to make sure they recognize I have a TEFL certificate and plan on giving me the pay bump. Haha.

I noticed they offer a 50 and 100 hour course with the caveat, "many employers will insist on their teachers having a certificate of 100 hours or more."

I'm assuming everyone here is doing the 100 hour course? Has anyone done the 50 hour course and have been told they must have the 100 hour certificate?

You need 100 or more for it to be considered anything of value.

Just wondering if anyone who has taken this thought it actually helped them at all in learning how to teach or if it was all just jumping through hoops in order to get the cert?
