Getting married just for a visa to KOREA? That is nuts bro. Think it over.

I think that you and tokki may be being a bit harsh in your assumptions. I assumed that Mith meant marriage was already possibly in the cards for him anyway and this just provides an even greater incentive. Anyway, if it's a mutually acceptable arrangement I don't see why we should get so worked up over it. Many marriages are better based on convenience and stability than on that ever nebulous, fluffy Hollywood idea of romantic love. Worse things happen all the time.

Bad luck man.
Don't worry about immigration. You know there is no standard here, just depends on who you get on what day so maybe you just got unlucky.
It'll work out but trust me, japan is just as shallow and stupid as here when it comes to ranking people,etc...

Im still under the impression that he just found her. Read this thread. had he been planning this before, why would he be mentioning the stuff he did on TV and whatever in the context of getting an F2? He neve mentioned her before on this thread, which leads me to believe she wasnt in the plans before the rejection today. Had he been planning this before, this whole thread would be pretty pointless. Get married and get your visa. It doesnt make sense otherwise.

But there ARE standards. The F2 1 has pretty clear requirements, and he doesnt fulfill them. No matter who he will get, he still doesnt qualify for the visa UNLESS he gets married.

I probably have near as many girl stories as Derrek, but I don't often mention that sort of thing here so that's why it never came up. Anybody who wants to make a subjective judgement on whether I should marry her can go to her home page through mine...ڹ̳
I also have gotten the equivalent of an E-7 visa before in Japan due to the Nihongo Nouryoku Shiken that I took; they allowed that in place of a degree so that's how I got to work there the second time after I had finished doing the Working Holiday thing over there.
Since my visa's up I'm making a quick trip to Fukuoka on the 16th and am coming back on the 17th. That'll give me some breathing room to think about what I want to do. I don't mind Japan, I just dislike living in Canada. Ah, my visa expired today so I'll have overstayed three days...I wonder if that will be a problem? I'm not expecting that they'll care about three days but you never know.
As for the tv appearances, we were paid for them in cash on the same day. Since it's not a gold mine anyway I was considering refusing the money and getting a letter from the station certifying that I'm not making any money which would keep me out of trouble later.

I think this is probably the best idea you have posted on this thread.

I didn't know they pay you for doing talk shows etc. I always figured people just do that because they want to be on TV or promote themselves...

Also are you studying? I don't know if they still do it, but like 5yrs ago some of the Korean language hawgwons like ELS could sponser education visas...might be worth a try there.

I assume most of the people would want to be on tv in spite of and cash incentives, but they probably pay them to appear professional as well as keep people around who may have become bored (it can be boring sometimes).
I'm studying and have taken tests but seem to have a dislike of studying formally in institutions and schools. It's not intentional though...maybe a dislike of paperwork and applying for things I can learn on my own. Things like this (just an example of the kind of thing one sees at a university):

(1) One completed Application Form (SNU form)
(2) A Statement of Purpose (A4 paper) (in English or in Korean)
(3) Two Letters of Recommendation (SNU form) from two of your professors (One of the Recommendation Letters must be an official letter written by the University President or a relevant school official).
(4) An Official University Transcript
(5) A Certificate of Enrollment from your University
(7) Only for Fine Arts, Music, and Physical Education applicants:
Photographs of works/recording of performances
(Cool A Copy of applicant's passport or an identification card
(9) Financial Certificate : (SNU form)
(10) Applicant's financial sponsor's Bank Certificate showing that the sponsor has/will have more than US$ 10,000 in the bank account for more than one month, counting backward and forward from the application date OR a Certificate of Scholarship.
* Documents requested in (9),(10) need only be submitted by foreign students exchange students (exchange student are exempt from this requirement)

From what I've heard, it is a big deal. You might want to get an extension before you leave, although it may be too late if you're already past the expiration.

^^
Yeah, she lived in Sydney for three years and is a graphic designer, quite
smart... I have an idea to turn all those Korean lessons into a book this year.
I think there are a few other people here that have Cyworld pages as well. Do you have one?

I have one for work purposes only - that is for my students to use, so I don't go sharing it with anyone outside of school.

Bascially I post photos I take at school and let the students leave msg's for me.

I also think you have enough lessons to make a book. Thing is to make a few more "example" conversations for each lesson so you can market a tape/cd with the book. If I had to say there was one thing missing from most books I have studied Korean from, it is they only give 1 conversation, with the same voices. You seem to have the hookup for knowing a lot of Koreans....could make for a good tape set using a lot of different voices that aren't so "fake".

Actually, here's what I was thinking of doing:
First the 25 lessons, with more examples and various voices like you suggested. Hopefully as natural as possible (the voices).
After that, 10 or 15 intermediate lessons, each focusing on a different aspect of Korean. One would be on weird internet Korean, another would be news, another would be ajumma Korean, etc.
Finally some of the songs that I've translated and explained on the page, though I don't know how the copyright would work there so it's a bit iffy. Since songs are the most difficult, they would come at the end.
That would probably be enough for a book...

More than just a book I think.

The last book I bought only had like 12-20 lessons in it total.
