|
|
Our school has a week of holidays during Chuseok (Sept. 18-26), and I'm itching to get to a beach during that time.
I've been thinking about the Phillipines, Indonesia, or even Jeju, but am open to other options and suggestions.
Price wise and season-wise, where is the best place to go?
The flights to the Phillipines look cheapest, but it will be the end of rainy season. Does anyone know if it's worth going?
Thanks for any help. |

I am heading to Cebu. Found a seat sale online. Should be some fun in the sun. |

I agree. Try Philippines. If you get a good flight into Manila, go to Peurto Galera. if you fly into Cebu, go to Bohol.
I was in Bohol last year at Chusok. It rained heavily but once, and had very short (10 minutes or so) showers a few times. |

I'm not finding anything below $600 for that flight.
I suppose I'm looking in the wrong place. Seems a bit pricey for
4-5 days. |

Rainy season was canceled this year due to El Nino.
Seriously. The country is experiencing a drought at the moment. Be aware however that IF you are going to Luzon (manila and north) you will be in the typhoon belt during the typhoon season and there is no guarantee that you won't get brushed by one.
If you want to pretty much ensure great weather, head for the Visayas region (middle part of the country). 2500 islands in that region so I am sure you can find a beach that suits your taste.
For the cheapest airfares look at Cebu Pacific and fly midweek (Tues., Wed., Thurs). Flights on Fri., Sat., Sun., Mon. are ALWAYS at least 100k more for the same seat.

Try www.cebupacificair.com
Their cheap promo fares are all sold out, but you should be able to find roundtrip for around 500,000 won leaving Friday night and getting back Sunday night. |

Got the ticket to Manila for about 500k - Cebu was sold out.
Now which beach to go to? How is Puerto Galera? |

A friend and I went to Puerto Gallero last year and really enjoyed it. It was only about a 2 hour bus ride from Manila and then an hour or so boat ride from there. There are several beaches to choose from and plenty to do. Being close to Manila was very convenient (and affordable).
I believe we stayed on White Beach, but there are several beaches on the island with accommodations. |

Why I suggested it is that you can get there on land from Manila. You don't have to worry about unavailable or overly expensive domestic flights.
Subic Bay is another choice from Manila.
Bohol is accessable from Cebu by boat or by plane from Manila. It's a really nice place. |

price wise.. hainan, china.
doesnt get any cheaper than china, i would say. and i heard they have beautiful beaches.
or try boracay, philippines. also not very expensive (or else all the chinese that go there in may, wouldnt be able to afford it).
as for the flight tickets. you have to pay a little more now, as sept isnt far away anymore.
im going to sydney for chuseok and paid roughly 800.000 krw for my r/t.
but im guessing youd be lucky to get a ticket to the philippines under 450.000 and a ticket to hainan under 300.000 |

No crowds on Jeju as Koreans think September isn't summer even though the monthly temperature averages are higher than June, 27 C in the afternoons, 21 C overnight, very nice for relaxing at a beach like Hyeopjae. Rent a car cheap and travel the island, sleeping in cheap love motels or tenting it. Really, a week can cost only half a mill, including airfare. |

We found some cheap tickets from Manila (40,000 won one way) to Puerto Princesa and booked them from Manila for Chuseok week. Anyone been or been to El nido? |
