My 7 year-old eMachines laptop is on its last legs and I don't think I can wait until my contract ends in June to go to the US and buy a new laptop. My question is if I buy a new laptop in Korea (LG, Samsung, Toshiba, Acer, etc) how hard would it be to change the language settings in Windows 7 from Korean to English?

Are there any English language versions of Windows 7 available in Korea?

Any help will be greatfully appreciated.

My *ahem* friend bought a HP Netbook in Korea that was preinstalled with Korean XP. My friend then proceeded to download Windows 7 from a dubious source and install it via a USB thumb drive.

Word is that it's very easy to do. Search Google and you will find multiple walkthroughs, or so I am told.

With Windows 7 Ultimate Edition you can change the language to whatever you like.

When I bought my vista home premium laptop, upon set up it installs windows for you and I was given the choice of English or Korean. I imagine it's much the same for 7. Also when I used the recovery partition I was once again asked so if you screw up the first time you should be able to fix it.

Also when you buy it, be sure to ask.

Also for the record there have been a lot of reports about windows 7 destroying battery life on laptops recently. Be sure to check into that before buying.

Just wanted to revive the thread and ask the OP if they managed to find a version of Windows 7?

I have recently purchased a new laptop, which will arrive soon. It has Windows 7 Home Premium which, I understand, does not have the option to change the language like in the Ultimate version.

I don't want to use a pirate copy, so I was wondering what the options were. Worst case scenario I have a CD for Windows Vista that was installed on my old laptop. I'm sure I could use that again, despite it being rubbish...

the laptop I just got earlier this week has windows 7 premium on it, and when I first booted it up, I was given the choice of languages for the OS, though I don''t think I'll have the choice to change it again.

My local computer dude installed W7 Ultimate K for 25,000. It was in K, but easy enough to swap over to ENG. Just a matter of downloading the E language pack.

It was worth it for me. I hate faffing about with computers.

Here's what worked for me on a Korean pre-installed Windows 7 Home Pro:

Google, then download a small program called "Vistalizator". The English version of Windows seems to be included in the Korean version (just hidden), so I did not need to download any further MUI packs (though there are links to them, free).

Make your choice, click, reboot. Done.

The program was even recommended by an MS guy in one of their help forums.

That's a great deal, was that for a genuine version?

Thanks for the responses, a few options to try.

Proper thanks for this.

Just done it on new netbook with Windows 7 starter. Had to download the MUI. Ran it. Perfect.

All English and a piece of pish to run.

Cheers again.
