Hey guys/gals.
I'm between jobs and back in Canada for a month. My passport will expire in November. I want to renew now, but there's no guarantee that I will get it back from the passport office before I fly back to Korea on the 26th of July.
I've heard that it is near impossible to get a job teaching if you have less than 6 months left on your passport. Can anyone confirm this?
I hope I can get a job and just renew it while I'm back in Korea. |

Lift up that mattress and dust off the old bank notes so you can pay for expeditious processing. |

I ordered a new passport two weeks ago, and just got it in the mail today...without paying the expdedite fee.
Order yours tomorrow, fork over the extra $60 bucks, and you might get it even quicker than I.
Edit: I just noticed you're in Canada (man there's a lot of you on here lol). I'm in the US; I suppose my post isn't relevant. |

With less than 6 months validity on your passport, unless you have a valid re-entry permit and an current resident status (E2) [seems you don't], you may not be allowed to board the plane to leave Canada and return to Korea.
(current requirements for visa free entry are that you need a minimum of 6 months validity on your passport for entry (since your entry stamp is good for 6 months)).
Since you are between jobs, GET a new passport and save yourself a LOAD of grief by some counter agent at the airport.

Passport required.
- Passport and/or passport replacing documents must be valid
for at least 6 months upon arrival.

It's always a general rule that you can't take international flight anywhere with less than 6 months validity remaining in your passport. If you are down to a year or less, you might consider renewing before going on a long global journey. Get expedited service ASAP. |

OB...you can get your passport back in 2-3 business days if you pay for the express processing service.
All you need is a travel date and a valid airplane ticket. Go to the passport office with this and tell them you a passport fast. It costs about 180 CAD.
If you mail it in, it takes roughly 10-14 business days...if everything is in order of course.
As for work, you will find it hard to get a work visa and job with a passport that is about to expire.
You can also be denied boarding at the airport or entry by customs if your passport has less than 6 months before it expires.
So...get off your butt, go the nearest passport office and get expedited processing.
Problem solved. |
