I have been offered a position in Songpa-gu. What are your experiences of this area? Is it a nice place to live and work? Thanks.

Most of song pa is a great area. Especially closer to the river. I like it because there are actually wide sidewalks, cleaner air, the river/the lake at lotteworld/olympic park are all short walks away and on average it is cleaner.

Which is why I live there Smile

Songpa's good. I live there now. There are some areas of it that are a little run-down, but only a little. The rest is really clean and a lot of it was built very recently.

It is good, particularly if you play some sports. Olympic park and the Han river are close and there are a ton of bike shops in the neighborhood.

Its the BEST district in Seoul.

Songpa-gu has the Olympic Park, Seokcheon lakes, Lotte World, heaps of Bicycle paths along the river, clean air, etc etc and NO traffic jams.

While I agree with the rest of that, do you drive in Songpa (especially around Jamsil)?

I've never lived in Songpa-gu, but my wife has family there. It may be limited to our visits, but there's usually been plenty of traffic to slow us down when we've driven around there.

That was the whole point in my post....Jamsil traffic is quite possibly some of the worst in Seoul for driving.

I lived there in '96 and '97. I used to walk from o-gum to the Hotel Lotte to pick up the IHT. Even back then I wondered what the fuss was about calling Korea a s*it hole. Songpa is a nice area, though it is soul-less like much of the area south of the Han River. But don't let that stop you!

Chen-ho (in Songpa-gu) also has a bit of character. It offers a nice blend of chic and shady, depending on which area you visit. There are some cute stores and an extensive Emart. i like the streetlife there.

I've lived in Korea for over 3 years. Songpa is the nicest place of all. It's the nicest place to live in all of Seoul, I believe. Not much of a night life, but it's mostly clean, wide streets, plenty of cafes and places to eat. Not too expensive. Nice people. Overall, really nice place.

It was the host part of town during the Olympics, that's why it looks much nicer. Most of the people that came to the Olympics stayed in this part of town, so the government built it up.

Of course, you shouldn't base what job you take on where it's located. But if the job you're looking at matches what you want, Songpa is a really nice place to spend a year or two.
