Burberry Man - (n) a man wearing a trench coat that jumps out from the shadows and exposes himself, usually to a group of tween-teenage girls and often during broad day light
The phrase originated when Burberry (the overpriced clothing company) was originally introduced into the country. Most flashers liked their trench coats. |

Flashers are known to have impeccable taste in trenchcoats, often opting for imported brandname labels. |

Though I believe Western laws on sexual harrassment and the sort are too harsh, a Burberry Man should be labeled a sexual offender and have their life ruined.
My wife has seen at least 3 times. |

I find it highly hypocritical that now they are having some massive crackdwn on peds. Talk about 10 years overdue.
And also, the Burberry Man problem has been going on for years and no one has done a damn thing about it. Burberry men are one step away from being child molestors. |
Burberry men???? Do they grow on trees or bushes? All joking aside, you should explain your exact definition of a burberry man as I have no idea what you are talking about. |
Burberry men is the Konglish word for flashers, Burberry being the Konglish for their trenchcoat, I guess. |
I would think that a guy with the name "Konglishman" would know that |
Well, I guess that is one word which had escaped my attention. But of course, I was vaguely familiar with the phenomena. In fact, I remember watching "Tell Me", the Wonder Girls music video which first made them famous. As I recall, there was indeed a scene in the music video that depicts a burberry man. |

Let me tell you a TRUE story.
Back home I have a friend who is a highly respected college professor.
He was going through a bitter divorce. He has 2 children, both girls. 1 is 8 and 1 is 10 years old. While going through the divorce his wife decided to send the children to therapy. The therapist was a friend of his soon to be ex-wife. During these sessions she convinced the oldest daughter that she had been molested by her father. He was immediately fired, arrested and investigated. The wife was given full custody until the conclusion of the investigation. The younger daughter refused to speak to her father. After a long investigation it came to light that the whole molsetation claim was fabricated. The therapist was charged with some kind of fraud or something and the wife lost sole custody. But, basically the guys reputation was ruined by false claims of abuse. He was never given his job back and people who knew him during this ordeal still don't truly believe his innocence. |

| Speaking of the burberry man, at my middle school festival, a male teacher did a mock skit with his homeroom on stage dressed up as the burberry man. He had the trench coat with sunglasses on, but underneath had some t-shirt on that said something like 'Our homeroom is #1'. And flashed the shirt to everyone. Everyone had a good laugh. Back home that would have gotten him suspended and possibly charged for doing that parody. I hope Korea never gets to that level of paranoia. |

Every Korean woman that I've asked has seen a Burberry man at least once.
A fellow Korean teacher at a school close to my school told me that her student had recently seen a Burberry man that morning. I asked her how she handled the situation...I thought call the police, tell the Principal. Instead she just told the girl to forget about it. Every other Korean teacher/mother agreed that this was the best course of action. They have no idea that this is a step in the development of a potential rapist.
The improper things that Korean men do here is just seen as very normal. I used to think that Korea was very safe but now I realize that these things was just not reported. Now parents have money and recourses. And if you pay attention it normally comes up that there was not much progress in the case until the parents went to a news station. |

Unfortunately this kind of garbage is an all too common happening. Some couples get really nasty when divorcing and this kind of strategy is all too easy for a mother to play. Courts are far too much in the woman's favor these days often leaving men and fathers hung out to dry or in situations like this worse.
If justice was justice any sex crimes would include a publication ban on identities of both parties until a verdict was rendered unless there was credible evidence of an immediate threat to someone that warranted telling their work, etc Even then there should be controls on how the information is used. An allegation is as good as a conviction in the west. Look what happened with Nancy Grace and the Duke Lacrosse team. |
