Well, I think this is the right place - -

I'll be traveling home to the US next week but will be stopping for a layover in Seoul for 4-5 hours. As a US citizen, does the airport offer extremely temporary visas to actually leave the airport - - maybe go to a nearby shopping mall or something? And, if I were to leave the airport, any tips on where I could go? I've checked on airport sites and see there is maybe a metro or something that leaves the airport, is that right?

Anyway, anything you can tell me would be helpful, thanks.

buses, trains (trains goes to gimhae from what I remember), and taxis all leave from the airport but the airport is in Incheon, not Seoul and with 3-4 hours of a layover you don't really have any time to get into seoul and do anything and be back in time to catch your flight.

You would be allowed to get a tourist visa on arrival if you have an onward ticket out of the country.

There is a really nice sauna (jim jill bang) downstairs over on the left.

Also, there is a little town close to the airport. I don't know much about that area. What do you like to do?

I got up to Seoul way too early for a flight once and had an extra two hours to kill. So I took the Hyatt shuttle over to their casino 5 minutes away and played the slot machines for a while. I actually walked out the door with $50 more than I came in with. Not a bad way to kill some time and still be close to the airport.

I'm not sure what I'd like to do. I see online that there seems to be plenty of shopping and dining at the airport, but those kind of activities only last so long. Getting a nice massage could be good. See how it differs from Chinese style if it does. I like the idea of the casino, but only have limited funds, so not sure. But thank you all for the tips and ideas, I leave in two days!

There is massage offered in the airport, but it is more expensive than elsewhere...but about the same as western prices, I think. I'm not sure you would find a decent massage place outside, but close to the airport.
