At which University would you study korean?

If you were serious about learning korean in the classroom, where would you do it? SNU, Yonsei, Sogang, Ehwa or somewhere else?

I've heard only good things about Sogang, and they seem to have a big focus communication (isn't that the main point of learning a language)

Anyway what have been you or your friends experiences? I know having studied at SNU would probably impress koreans, but I don't give a fat rat's clacker about a Uni's reputation or prestige (I just want the most effective program)

Once again, I'll stick with Sogang.

There are several posts scattered about the board as to why, but take it from someone who studied at Yonsei and Sogang.

Yonsei has the oldest/most famous program but all I've heard about it is that it's very technical, grammar-based, learn-by-rote kind of style.

I'm studying at Sogang too.

You mean you are studying there now or you will start next semester?

Question for those of you who have already studied at one of the programs or are going to.

The application process seems a bit vague, because it seems geared to mostly people who don't have easy access to tourist VISAs like the majority of us teachers do.

Now, we have no need to get notarized letters or anything to obtain a tourist visa, and a 6 month one at that (at least for Canadians). So were you guys able to forgo the whole process of having to get some letter of introduction written by a Korean living in Korea notarized and showing it at some consulate?

I'm assuming you just apply, get accepted, pay your tuition a be done with it?

Did some courses at Busan Dae Hak yo......not the best of programs.

Since then have been studying with a private teacher (friend of my wife's family).

For both Yonsei and Sogang I've just studied on the 6-month B2 (although some have said that it's illegal, nobody at the school cares). To get a B2 all you need is to be Canadian and to show up at the airport.

A lot of the Japanese students I studied with just got the 3-month visa.

Yeah that's all I've got at the moment too. I just walked in, filled out application forms (you need a passport-sized photo; other than that you can just walk in with nothing) and paid the fees. Pretty simple.
