touch the teachers?
At my MS the new 1st graders are insane. They are consistently touching my co-teacher.
I nearly pushed one kid through the wall this morning(for which I think I might be in trouble for, but that's another thread) when he came up behind me and started giving me an obnoxious back rub (for which I've yelled at him for in the past).
The last two sets of 1st graders I had wouldn't have dreamed of touching my last co-teacher. Nor me. Except for the touching arm hair thing. But that isn't as presumptuous as trying to give someone a back rub.
This grade is frickn' insane. I'm pleased vacation is approaching. |

Just tell them to stop. No need to be violent with them, they are just kids. A simple 큼만해 should be sufficient. Only thing I don't stand for is 둥침 at that point I start crushing fingers. I don't get it in Middle school only at my hagwon last year. |

I have students hugging me for no apparent reason.
I try to evade physical contact at all times, but some kids just need to feel secure.
Then again I do like like a big'ole teddybear.

| the students sometimes hug me. i teach at an all-girls' middle school and i'm a girl, so it's not a big deal, but i've pretty much put a stop to that now. just tell them to stop or move away from them. i wouldn't get angry though, it sounds like your kids like you if they're trying to give you a back rub (i've noticed some of the more popular korean teachers getting back rubs). |

Never been dong chimed. I completely agree about the violence part. I shouldn't have done it. He is one kid in particular who is a nuisance. He comes up and asks me questions "You likey Korleeaaa?", then I start to give him an answer
Me: Well it's OK...
Him: WHAT?! Hahahaha.
Completely insincere and ridiculous. Then he will come into the office at least twice a day, look over my shoulder and breath on me (he usually has rancid breath).
Me: Please stop doing tha...
Him: WHAT?! HAHAHAHAHa
I've yelled at him before, so he knows not to do it. So, today I snapped some what. Let fly some swears as well.
Heard a "Orh jinja!" from over in the corner. I'm not sure if she was referring to me or the kid. Probably me. They are talking about moving my desk down to the main teachers' office, but I'm not sure about the whole idea. School is up at the end of the week, so it will blow over. |

Nah, they don't like me. We pretty much hate each other. He is being an insincere little ass hole.
I don't really blame the students. Though, I still hate them. I've been at this school over two years. First year was so-so, most of the problems stemmed from my inexperience. Last year was awesome. Great students. If they didn't want to learn they just had a nap, or pretended to study. Fine by me. But 80% of the class were into it.
This year is a complete joke. Out of ten classes, maybe one is OK. Three are complete write offs (maybe 10 mins of work), and six classes of 20-30 mins of work. I never leave the class feeling high like I did last year.
At least I have 2nd grade girls for the other 10 classes. They actually respond to threats and rewards. And are at least sincere in their contempt for me, though most love me. |

While you are sitting at your desk trying to write lesson plans?
It seems different. That is out of genuine curiosity (or something, there are hairy Koreans too), this is out of a desire to be obnoxious and to get attention. |

This is while I'm sitting at my desk. Between classes there seems to be any number of students in the teachers' office. (this is a small one on the 4th floor, not the main one).
There can be up to a dozen students there between classes. Many just seem to be there for their own enjoyment. No good reason.
I never set foot in the teachers' office when I was in middle school. It was like a secret sanctuary. We aren't in Kansa anymore though, I guess. |

Whew! Glad I'm a girl, because I get loads of hugs from my 3rd graders, and high fives from all the others. Last year I had a few 6th grade boys that kept trying to kiss my hand, though. I told them no kiss only high five. Creepers!
Wish I got backrubs... I see my coteacher get them, but I don't want to ask. I bring those suction cup things in for my neck. |

Yea sorry, I forgot to give the meaning. It means "Don't touch me!".
I've found that speaking their language delivers a clearer message.
