Okay, it's the last week of the semester.
Exams are over and the students are switching off.
So I figure I can give them a break, and let them chill out with an English-language movie.
Now, K-teachers can show a movie in class and the staff don't beat an eye-lash.
The foreign teacher does it, and faces cries of "you must prepare a class" and "it is your duty!" |

pppfffffffftttttt... I am giving World Cup word searches till Thursday then I'm gonna show a few simpsons episodes or maybe some Last Airbender anime which i downloaded. Just simply write up a short retention quiz for the movie. They are listening to English and writing answers to show understanding. |

Well, prepare a class. I gave my students a list of vocabulary words to write down. They then had to search for the definition and then write the Korean translation as well.
It took about 20 minutes in total. I then showed them an episode of the Simpsons so that they could see how each word is used in a sentence.
Everyone seems happy so far. |

It's more the hypocrisy I am raging against. |

that sucks, i know how you feel. i probably shouldn't show a movie this week either, but i'm feigning ignorance. 2 classes down and no one's said anything!
my pet peeve is when korean teachers tell me that it must be great doing games and activities all the time. hell no, it's a lot of work creating fun, interactive lessons and trying to control a class of kids that are already excited because i'm there. i'd much rather lecture like the korean teachers... |

I find "Lost" is good for Screen English. Let them read the English subtitles. You can also put it on pause and make them do a choral repetition of the sentences as they appear on the screen.

Wallace and Gromit is also great screen English. You can also get clips from friends on this site |

I got the same thing. I was told the Vice Principal told people not to show movies, but everyone else is anyway. I am going to give it a try for 2 of my weaker classes anyway |

yeah, that's what our VP has said too, but i noticed some korean teachers either giving the kids free time or watching movies, so i figured i'd try until someone said otherwise. |

They had me doing a solid 35 minutes of listen and repeat off a paper for 3rd and 4th grade classes this morning. We already started lesson 9 last week after exams finished. Next week is our last week with the last day being the 23rd. There isn't going to be movies and play time to my knowledge so far. |
