An Indian woman gave birth to a baby in the lavatory of an international passenger plane and tried to dispose of it down the toilet. A team of surgeons used a saw cutter to remove the newborn's head from the toilet. The 22-year-old mother was reported to have left the plane when it landed, and was later arrested in the airport after the cabin crew on the Turkmenistan Airlines flight found the baby.

Newspapers reported the mother was an unmarried medical student returning home after completing a degree abroad.

Doctors at the hospital said the infant was in a critical condition.

An unmarried fornicator, to boot.

Women have done this sort of thing all through history, including in the West until more recent times. I imagine they are simply terrified of the consequences of giving birth outside of wedlock.

I know an Indian student who has a girl the same age as my youngest. She fell pregnant during her studies and took residency here to avoid going back to her family and the life of social digrace she will be forced to lead. It's a secret between her and her mum.

I hope that poor little baby survives. What a terrible way to come into the world.

I've heard of it too. I've heard of Catholic nuns who cut up their babies and wash them down the drain, disposing of bone pieces in the trash. I'm sure many small skeletons stayed in the closet since the beginning of time. Awful, but very believable and most likely the case.

Shocked

Catholic nuns don't get pregnant! They're nuns, for crying out loud.

Nuns don't do the wild monkey dance. It's not in their contract.

India has a large total pop. but only the pop. density of New Jersey. It isn't necessarily an over crowded country.

By the by, what was really even the point of posting this? It's a yucky situation, but I bet you could post a new yucky situation every day, if you wanted to. No one is really edified or gains any new insights from this. Morbid curiosity? Slack jawed leering?

I wonder what the other passengers thought. Surely giving birth is a loud, long, messy process. She would have been in the bathroom an awfully long time and came out looking terrible. This is a bit morbid, but imagine being the next one in that bathroom.

If you didn't intend to come to the defense of this woman, you may want to revisit your post and insert a few edits. If you did... Shocked

And, this:

She fell pregnant during her studies[...]

Rolling Eyes I really question the character of individuals who approach pregnancy as if it's nothing more than a disease.

Support? I whole-heartedly agree that society condemning a woman just because she becomes pregnant out of wedlock is an antiquated and ignorant belief.

But as far as supporting her response to the situation... I think not.

I'm glad you recognize the difference between the two, and I hope it's abundantly obvious that my post was in reference to the latter of those.

Not always. A number of women can go through their entire pregnancy without even realizing they are pregnant. Their is an entire series on Discovery Health about it that is airing now.

Something that is even more common: My cousin gave birth without even realizing she was in labor. She woke up in the middle of the night thinking she needed to have a bowel movement, she pushed and out came the baby. She then suffered from a severe case of postpartum depression for months. Not sure if the depression and her labor are related though.

hmm, didn't know that. I've only ever heard about how painful it is.

Yeah it's not exactly common, but it does happen often enough.

I feel really bad for this baby and this woman. I'd like to think that she didn't do this on purpose. To me it sounds like she might have suffered some sort of imbalance. Hopefully not another young kid throwing their baby in the dumpster.
