Going home soon for vacation and want to bring some cool stuff for family. Nothing silly or cheap like chopsticks or those souvenir masks or whatever.

Anything practical and "Korean" that they couldn't get in the States?

I was thinking of a nice, traditional tea set for parents. What gifts have you bought for people back home (for brothers, sisters, parents, friends, etc.)?

can i bring korean alcohol/food with me as hand luggage or would i have to put it in my main suitcase?

No you can't take the alcohol on the plane. Airports only allow 3 oz. containers through security now a days, even aside from other restrictions on alcohol.

I brought my parents two miniature (about a foot tall) versions of those wooden posts that are at the entrance to villages to keep evil spirits from entering. They look hand carved and I got em in Insadong. Since I live out in the boonies, and actually see those posts on the towns around here, I thought them to be practical, but if you live in the middle of a city maybe they wouldn't be. Very traditional Korean though.

The traditional Korean fans aren't super practical but are a nice thought and authentically Korean.

My mom loved the small magnets & dolls of people wearing the Korean traditional costumes.

A small laquer-ware box is about $20-$30 and makes a nicer gift.

I also bring some different snack foods and candies for my nieces and nephews to try, and they enjoy that!
