I'm genuinely curious: what makes you feel the least bit bad for the mother?

Indeed. The papers are constantly flooded with stories of pregnant women going to the bathroom, unintentionally giving birth, and remaining completely unaware of the presence of blood, other bodily fluids, and an umbilical cord leading from their lady parts to the toilet. These things just happen. |

I'm more of hoping she is bat**** crazy and had no idea what she was doing. After unexpectedly giving birth, my cousin was so traumatized she just sat in the tub for a couple of hours until her husband woke up and found her.
Edit: So what makes me also feel bad for the mother is that something similar happened in my family. My cousin didn't try to flush her child down the toilet, but she also wasn't in the state of mind anywhere near sane.
If she was just trying to dispose of her child like a piece of excrement to avoid social judgment and/or parental duties, well then yeah, I have no sympathy what so ever. |

Fair enough.
Do you mind if I ask what became of your cousin's baby? |

Healthy as can be. Spent a little time in the hospital and was treated to avoid any kind of infections that could have taken place due to the unsanitary environment she was born into (a freaking toilet....). Was released to her father later and now my cousins depression has gotten under control for the most part. Scary times though, she was so messed up she couldn't be left with the baby alone for quite a while. This was a few years ago, but she still has issues. I'm not sure if something else is going on there. |

If you didn't intend to come to the defense of this woman, you may want to revisit your post and insert a few edits. If you did...

I really question the character of individuals who approach pregnancy as if it's nothing more than a disease. |

Each birth is different. Sometimes they just slip out relatively quick and easily. Some women give birth within a few minutes of going into labour. |

I left you an out with my first response; it's unfortunate that ^this^ is all you came back with. Your comments were phrased in a manner that made them very deserving of criticism.

I'm glad the baby made it out alright. That's definitely an oddball of a story.
Postpardum depression is such a strange and terrible disease, and I can only imagine how the nature of that birth made it that much worse. |

Criticise me all you like. Your preachy sanctimonious nonsense is hilarious. Keep at it. Spent the morning protesting at the local abortion clinic did you? Nice.
As for berating me for using the term 'fell pregnant' - what a laugh. It's a standard phrase, and doesn't reflect on a user the way you pretend.
Tut tut! He didn't FALL asleep - sleep's not a disease! |

Wow. I'll try one more time to have an actual discussion before ignoring your posts for the rest of the thread.

I haven't mentioned abortion a single time in this thread. This woman didn't seek the help of a medical professional to dispose of her child; she crapped it out in an airplane bathroom and left it to die. Why would you defend that?

If you didn't intend it to be read that way, the mature response would be a simple correction, maybe with a little sarcasm thrown in. As it is, many, many feminists use the phrase "fall pregnant" in exactly the manner I described. Your other comments suggested to me that you were of like mind. If you're not, then say so and I'll retract my comment.

And I suppose when you fall asleep you do so as a direct result of the influence of gravity? Or, God forbid, words just might have more than one meaning? |

| Of course I heartily approve of her actions. I flush babies down aeroplane toilets all the time. Can't think of anything better to do with them, really. |

| Fine, nevermind. I apologize I ever bothered you with my responses in the first place. Feel free to rag it up without further interference on my part. |
