director?
A friend of mine just phoned me and told me that her director had just given her a gift.
She opened the box and discovered it was a gift set of ....
panties!!!
The director said that she wanted to give her something as a token of appreciation for all the great work that she has been doing.

In the past I have been given the ever popular SPAM set (my neighbour's dog loved me but my students didn't understand why I considered it dog food), the soap set, oil, towels, among other things.
But panties?

The strngest gift I have seen given, was a birthday gift to a teacher that the director's wife didn't like, a bottle of mouthwash. Very insulting to the teacher. Smile

Actually, I heard that underwear was a really special gift--like it's really intimate and if you get undies from someone, they think very highly of you. My first year in Korea, an ex-pat who'd lived here for 30+ years told me about this.

Got packs of underwear several times, one was a ten (or some such large number) pack of bikini-cut briefs, handed to me in class by a giggling gaggle of 13 yo girls. I usually like boxers, but I have to admit I wore those with pride. I was glad I didn't unwrap that gift in class Very Happy (which might have been the intention). And never one to miss an opportunity to discuss proper usage, the next day we ended the calling mens undershorts "panties" right there and then. Never got underwear from guys thank god, they bought me ties.

A gift pack of SPAM, complete with bag that read "It's love at a first bite". The combination of the packaging, the gift itself and the fact that everyone knew I was a vegetarian had me laughing so hard I cried. Laughing
