|
|
I have just started my search for a Korean language school. I am looking for something that meets 2-3 times a week, in the evening, that I can afford. I live in Paju, the earliest I can get to Seoul (Seoul Station) is around 6pm.
So far the places I have looked at are like 240,000+ won per month for 6 hours a week. That's a bit more than I was expecting. Is that typical? I have found some free classes, but they are only once a week.
If any one could suggest any classes that are good, or any that I should avoid, I would appreciate it. |

I've heard good things about KLA. I plan on attending there when I move to Seoul in September. Can't wait! Goodbye Ulsan! |

I'd be interested as well. Anyone know of evening classes closer to the west side (I'll be living in Mokdong)? |

The Migrant Worker's Center (Inside the Sinmok Welfare Center) is near Omokgyo Station in Mokdong. They offer free Korean language classes in three levels. Most of the courses are in the morning, however, and I'm not sure what they've got going on in the evening at all. Right now they are on summer break but will be resuming classes in August.
Here's their website (although for some reason I can't get it to work for me right now): http://www.shinmok.or.kr
Feel free to PM me if you need any more info on that one. My husband is taking the beginning classes right now, MWF from 10am-noon. They also offer Korean and International cooking classes. ^_^ |

Lolimahro, thanks for this info. I visited that site but it was in Korean, and I couldn't figure out if it could be translated. I would love to ask you more in-depth questions about these classes. Could you possibly PM me? I would PM you, but I can't yet, as I don't have 25 posts. Thanks. |

My advice is don't go to YBM. |
YBM in Jongno 3 Ga is awesome. Teachers are great, classes are decent size.
3 hours x 4 saturdays (morning or afternoons) is only 105,000 /month and
2 hours x 10 weeknights (T,Th,F or M,W,F) is 115,000 / month.
with 6 levels, you can't beat it.
i did go to YBM in Gangnam once, and, especially compared to Jongno YBM, the teacher was horrible and the staff was rude. i'll never go to Gangnam YBM....
oh, also, don't forget the great and free program and Sookmyeong Women's University ( on the 4 line, one stop south of Seoul Station). every Saturday from 3 to 5pm in the Social Education building. 숙명여자대학교 사회교육권
that's absolutely great value and there are 5 different levels. |

It must be luck of the draw with teachers thenI went to the Jongo-sam-ga YBM and hated it. I agree with you that the price can't be beatbut when you're not happy with something, any price is too high.
Thanks for mentioning the Saturday classes at Sookmyeong Women's University, I'd forgotten about them. |
