Is it possible as a married couple for one person to get the assigned housing and the spouse just ask for the subsidy?
How likely is EPIK to grant a request such as this?
(This is for SMOE if that makes any difference) |

Highly unlikely but miracles have been reputed to have happened in the past.
It is more likely that the two of you will be squeezed into an officetel and told that it is "couples housing" when in reality it is the same that a single would get.

When do you have to let them know what you want?
Is that something that is taken care of prior to, during or after orientation? |

I've known married couples in EPIK (all the programs are pretty much in cahoots now) who thought they had the set-up you're looking for.
After nearly a year of receiving the extra allowance they were informed "Oops administrative error" & had to return it. |

are you going to work for the same school? or different schools. If you work for different schools you can get the subsidy, but if you work for the same school, then no. At least through GEPIK it worked that way. |

I assume different schools? I guess we won't know for sure until orientation, but I thought schools didn't like to have more than 1 foreign teacher - especially if they were married. Higher risk of flight or something like that - if one didn't like it, lose 2 teachers instead of just 1. |

I know a married couple who are living in her single housing and he is collecting the subsidy (SMOE.)
BUT this is only because SMOE messed up their living situation, apparently forgot they were married and placed them in separate housing after orientation. Now he commutes an hour to work every day. |
