I just got an email about teaching in Taiwan, the pay is a little more than a school my husband and i were looking into but we really weren't even thinking about Taiwon! If any teachers have any experience than please share. Also, anyone who has heard about teaching in Taiwan please help give me a little more info! Thanks so much!!

I don't think rent and flights are included in Taiwan jobs.

Are you a certified teacher? If so, you won't have a problem getting jobs. If not, the competition is fierce. My fiance (not a certified teacher)could only find enough hours to live but wasn't able to save anything to travel or pay off any debts. Usually you have to pay for your own apartment and flights. Also, steer clear of kindergarten jobs because they are illegal and I've heard some crazy stories of teachers jumping out windows and running away from the authorities.

While I have never set foor in Taiwan, I agree with the above poster. The research I did showed me that you need to be a licensed teacher for a public school and need an MA for a uni -- BY LAW. You also pay 20% tax your first 6 months, and you're on your own with airfare, rent, and there is nothing like settlement allowances and completion bonuses AND most of the kindies require you to work Saturdays...which is most of the jobs outside of public schools and unis. So yeah, I'll never teach there!
