Whil I found this video funny, some of the lines should be modified to actually address the real situation
1) They do not force you to deskwarm if there is NOTHING to teach unless you are out of vacation days
2) I have not once heard of a school saying" you have 21 vacation days to use, we are only doing 3 weeks of camp, that leaves 15 open school days where we are doing nothing, but you can only take 8"
3) MANY teachers do not get thier vacation dates in writing and go ahead and make plans. Then they want to get angry when the school plans something later because they simply forgot ( its not like they dont do other jobs at the school or deal with a hundred other people daily) They plan vacations and never have thier vacations actually official as per their contract. |

I think it should just be modified to be more funny. It starts off funny but then it continues for over 3 minutes just pointing out things we can relate to, with barely any comedy thrown into the lines. There's a ton of these Hitler variations and only a few manage it =( |

Although you appear to be arguing an opposing view at first glance I was not deceived. You my friend are an apologist. Now be a good little waygook and go brown nose a Korean. Dont forget to tell them how much you love Kim chi.
And remember, Korea can do no wrong and foreigners deserve unfair treatment since were all just drug addicts anyway. |

Then you run out and are forced to deskwarm in the winter. You're forced to sooner or later. |

How do you know? and please read the sentence again, i stated UNLESS you are out of vacation days!
BUt seeing as your vacation days are DONE there would be no vacation to cancel unless you were a freaking moron.
You are making the assumption that all teachers are forced to deskwarm, not all of them are, right or wrong
Also I (personally) do not run out of vacation days, my vacations are 5 weeks long,3 weeks of that are camps, that leaves 2 to 2.5 weeks ( sometimes they come back or end on a wednesday or something.
That leaves (without fail for 2 years straight) a perfect 20-22 days for my vacation days after the camps are done, and then I get my lovely little re contract bonus when i sign again in February.
And if there is a day or two of overlap i DO NOT have to come in and deskwarm.
however, even if I had too, all well, no big deal, I'll bring in my novel and my frenc lessons and use my time in some kind of constructive way IF my lesson plans are all done and good to go.

Woe is me, I'm getting paid money to sit on my butt and play Mafia Wars.
I used to work full time + overtime for hourly pay. I didn't have a vacation. And if I did take some time off I sure wasn't going to get paid for it.
All of the stuff regarding vacation was in your contract. Honor it.
Or maybe here's an idea, do some of that after hours/overtime work instead of whining and protesting about it and then maybe your school will play ball and give you extra vacation time.
Thank goodness ESLers aren't security guards/on the bomb squad. |

Yes. We run out. Let's see: 6 weeks of summer, minus 3 weeks of camp. 2 weeks of possible vacation time.
6 weeks of winter break, plus 2 weeks in February. Minus 3 weeks of camp. 5 weeks of possible vacation time.
So you've got 7 weeks of possible vacation time. You're fortunate enough to have 5 weeks of vacation. That's 2 weeks left where you're forced to deskwarm. If you're not, your school isn't following the rules. Good on you, though.
BUt seeing as your vacation days are DONE there would be no vacation to cancel unless you were a freaking moron.
I mentioned nothing about canceling a vacation. I said that we are forced to deskwarm sooner or later.
You are making the assumption that all teachers are forced to deskwarm, not all of them are, right or wrong]
Many of us are. You said we are NEVER forced to deskwarm. I corrected your mistake.
Also I (personally) do not run out of vacation days, my vacations are 5 weeks long,3 weeks of that are camps, that leaves 2 to 2.5 weeks ( sometimes they come back or end on a wednesday or something.

How does 20-22 days equal 5 weeks?
And if there is a day or two of overlap i DO NOT have to come in and deskwarm.

It is no big deal. I don't mind deskwarming one bit. I do mind when you spout drivel that we aren't EVER forced to deskwarm, though. Many of us are. |

what i said was you are not told that you are forced to deskwarm IF YOU HAVE VACATION DAYS to use.
LIke lets say you have 3 weeks of vacation left after the camps, and you have like ALL 21 vacation days still left,
there is not a single school, NOT ONE that is going to say, NO you cant take 10 vacation days ( out of 15) because you MUST deskwarm for 8.
So again you are not ever forced to deskwarm at the expense of your vacation in the sense that your vacation days are just not granted so that you can sit at a desk and do nothing.
And yes I made a mistake there Are in fact 6 weeks of vacation in the summer, and there are a little more than 5 sometimes 6 in winter ( most schools go til a day or two before christmas and then dismiss til the end of january/beginning of February.
yes of course some of you may be asked to deskwarm a day or five before or after vacation days, but again you ARE NOT forced to sit at a desk and have your vacation days refused on a whim because "your co teacher says you must deskwarm for x number of days" when you have vacation days you can use.
So please don't misrepresent my position |

Oh also you say you corrected my mistake, I didnt make a mistake heck you pretty muc simply reiterated the quote you were quoting. I said you are not forced to deskwarm UNLESS you were out of vacation days, then you say "yeah then you run out and you are" thats AWESOME! I never sugested otherwise.
How does 20 - 22 days equal 5 weeks????? um you may want to go over that part again Ill summarise in days for you so its not that hard to grasp
Summer vacation - 25-30 days
Winter vacation - 25 days
Total 50-55 days
Camps - 30 days ( minimum, sometimes more)
50 - 55 SUBTRACT 30 ( minimum) leaves 20 - 25 vacation days to plan for.
I said 20-22 as my school often has teacher days that start on the wednesday before so that monday we get down to business.
Given that vacation dates are that tight there is not a single school that can realisticaly even get away with saying "nope sorry dont want to give you your vacation days, I am forcing you to deskwarm for ten, here you can have 5.
Now of course some of you may have a a few days of extra non teaching days where your vacation has run out and so you need to come in and deskwarm, but your vacation time is done, so it brings me back to my original coment that what happens in that HItler video simply does not happen. |

But then you'd be forced to deskwarm in the winter.
I'm not arguing that a school doesn't allow you to take vacation days if you've got them, forcing you to deskwarm. I'm saying that most of us inevitably run out of vacation days, and are forced to deskwarm either summer or winter vacation for a few weeks. |
