Kinda like the first thread titled Vacation Problems http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=187609

Unlike the OP in the link above, I have not been given any special leave that I owe anyone during this contract.

I teach at a public elementary school. I am finishing up my third consecutive contract at the same school.

I'll dig right in.

Problem: I requested that my co-teacher confirm my vacation dates 2-3 months ago. I got them orally approved about a month ago. Checked with her about every week to make sure they were still OK. My obvious slip up: didn't get anything in writing.

During the waiting for oral approval stage, I was informed that my main school would be having two consecutive weeks of English camp. I was told that it would be OK for me to miss the second week of camp, when my vacation days were approved.

Two days ago, I was told that now my main school would like me to stay here for another week to teach the second week of camp at my main school.

Mind you, tickets have been bought. My flight is less than 2 weeks away. Cancellation Fees apply.

I am entitled to 10 days plus 2 weeks of home leave according to my contract (I am renewing). I was originally only going to take 3 weeks.

Now, with their new request, my leave would be whittled down to 2 weeks of vacation because of when school starts back.

I've got my thinking cap on- but would like some perspective from others.
Especially those who have been through this.

If you were in my shoes, what would you do?

Thanks in advance for your honest opinion.

Why the f do they keep pulling this crap?

Just smile and say

"Oh sorry I'm too busy with my contracted vacation during that time."

Be firm but polite. THEY don't have a leg to stand on, and to be honest, are being massive dick holes. Seriously? Who does that?

Like I said in the other thread, they are probably asking in the full knowledge that you will tell them to go f themselves. They don't really lose anything by asking. You might say "No", but you also might say "Yes" which is just gravy to them.

Just say "NO!"

Follow Senior advice and tell them that you already booked your trip and you bought your tickets.

+1

one of my schools tried this as well, just tell them that everything's been booked and paid for since they approved your vacation request a while ago. make sure to tell them there are no refunds on anything you've booked.

Trip is booked. Tickets bought. Dates confirmed with your co-teacher a long time ago. Just say no.

You can mention that if they wanted you to teach they should've told you a long time ago and you'd have had to take vacation days during regular school (like I did).

Short answer: no.

Update:

I got my vacation days.

I am bumping this topic for anyone else with this problem.

I explained earnestly, without being rude or placing blame.

After 15 minutes of my co-teacher saying that it couldn't be done, she asked the principal again and called me back and said that I could take the days previously agreed to.

It must be my lucky day.

Thanks for the advice guys- I wasn't able to read it before I went in to plead my case, but I will bump this topic in case anyone else is having the same problem.
