I'm going to Busan next month. My hair is pretty much white-blonde and my eyes are light grey... I know I'm going to get stared at but how much? and importantly, am I going to be in danger? Should I dye my hair... ?

In Busan you'll be fine....you'll be safe anywhere in Korea, but you won't get stared at nearly as much in a big city.

Being stared at is a nuisance, but it isn't a danger or anything. If you are super sensitive, then yes, having blonde hair will certainly increase the attention that you receive (and certainly increase the number of times people ask if you are Russian) but I'd only dye your hair if you are uber-sensitive.

There is certainly no need to dye it before you come....if 2 weeks in you find that you are getting more attention than you are comfortable with then you can dye it here. A HUGE percentage of the Korean populace dyes their hair, you'll find a shop literally every 50 meters that will do it for you.

Thankyou so much for the useful and quite advice. I'm okay with some stares (I've been all over China). I just don't want to get into trouble. My fears are quelled though, thanks!

er, Busan is a big city, the second biggest.

But no, you won't get stared at anymore for having white/black/pink hair

Oh I thought that person meant that because it's a big city people might not stare as much.

Yes.....and what sheriffadam says is not true....if you have pink or white hair you will 100% be stared at more in Korea....if your dog has pink hair that will be seen as normal, though (no joke).

Grave danger I'm afraid. If there's one thing Busan-ers detest, it is people with white-blonde hair and light grey eyes. You'd better carry a baseball bat around with you at all times, to try to deter them.

Hahaha! What!? No it doesn't look like that. I hope you're joking about the baseball bat, I might need to get a bigger handbag...

Does anyone have any more HELPFUL advice?

I live in Busan and I never get stared at except by the occasional old Korean man sitting across from me on Subways glaring for no particular reason. The average Korean in Busan will not do any more than glance at you, no different than being back home.
