|
|
Hello all! So I am already trying to plan out my Sollal vacation time for February (it gets booked up really quickly at my school) and I figure by that time I will be completely sick of the cold and will be wanting to get away to warmth and beaches. My question is about how safe it would be to go to the Phillipines, specifically Cebu and Bohol, as a single female?
I've only been here in Korea a short while and don't know anyone well enough yet to say "Hey you wanna come with?" but I don't want to miss out on the specials on flights, so any advice or information would be very helpful.
Thanks! |

If you are talking about the resort areas of Cebu (over on Mactan) you are fine as a single girl. Just stay out of the old district of Cebu city (Carbon and the old waterfront) after dark (it can be a bit rough).
Bohol and Panglao (Alona )is pretty much safe everywhere that a tourist might end up.

I would add that you can go just about anywhere you like as a single woman if you use good horse sense and employ a bit of strategy.
On my first solo trip, I took a few good books, enjoyed the sights and scenery during the day, and then the comforts of the hotel or resort, and perhaps a nearby restaurant in the evening. Then, I got on a bus from one place to another and befriended some other travelers. Upon arrival, we bargained for a good hotel rate and managed to have a pretty good time. Respecting people's boundaries and expecting them to respect yours is key, being prepared to say "back off," is also key. If you do this clearly and firmly, most creeps will go looking for another victim. |

Thanks. I've traveled abroad before on my own so I definitely know how to keep safe on my own, but I've never been to the Phillipines and wasn't quite sure. Sounds like you did what I am planning on doing and glad to hear it worked out well and you had a good time! |

Watch your drinks. Knew a girl that woke up with all her money and clothes gone. |

Cities are likely more dangerous. Beach and resort areas are a bit safer, but there is still a possibility for a Roofies (sp?) sort of thing.
Boracay or Bohol sound like fun ideas. Maybe Puerto Galera. |

I did Boracay by myself last year with no problems. I never felt like my safety was an issue. Have a great time! Sometimes solo travel is the best! |

I haven't been to the Phillipines, but Thailand, Cambodia, and Indonesia were amazing. This year, I may travel with some crazy girlfriends. |

I've been to Cebu several times and I am a single girl too.
It's generally safe as long as you are also careful on your part. I think Carbon is safe too. Maybe the least safest place there is Colon. It's like a ghetto area although the people are generally nice.
Good luck and have fun on your trip. |

Ya, stay out of muslim mindanao (the extreme south west of the country) - not that any tourists are likely to end up there anyway unless they charter a boat or catch a military flight.
And the elections are over, transition of government was peaceful and life continues - more interested in rice than politics.
And as far as kidnap for ransom - Kanos are more likely to be a victim of petty crime (pick pocket) or getting hosed by some cabbie or tour operator.
Just use common sense and you will be fine.

That's great to hear! Woohoo, I'm already getting excited and totally bummed that I have to wait until February hahaha. And to those who mentioned the drinks thing, I will definitely be careful never let me drinks out of my sight Oh and will also watch out for the Muslim areas.
Balzor, hahahaha, well if you'll be there around the same time maybe we should grab a drink or something!
Thanks everyone for the responses! |
