My summer camp district just informed me that on top of the summer camp textbook, each teacher needs to hold a club activity for 45 minutes for 5 days. I'm going to be doing plays but was hoping for some general guidance/advice. Has anyone done anything like this before? Any advice on good plays or role-plays that work for small groups? I plan to separate the class into several small groups that can work on different plays. Each group would practice their play each day until they perform on the 5th day for the other students.

I'm mainly worried about how I can get the students interested and able to perform decently by the 5th day while keeping their interest. I want them to be able to practice in class each day but without mindlessly reading the scripts. Any ideas on how I can make it a game? And how they can progress each day until they perform on the final class day?

Also, I can request materials from the camp budget. Any suggestions? I'm thinking popcorn for the last day, but what else would be good to make props, etc?

I'm having my class do plays tomorrow. I haven't done it yet so I obviously don't know how well it will work but here's how I'm doing it:

I'm going to show them a few Mr. Bean videos then have them write their own scripts based on the topics they watched (checking into a hotel, going to the dentist etc). Then I'm going to split them into groups of 5 and they will write their own scripts, and I will obviously help them if they need it. Then I'll give them time to practice it and the next day they'll act it out. I'm going to film them on my camera and then on the last day I'll let them watch their performances.

Some of them will be too shy to perform, and won't participate. Maybe have them do it using shadow puppets or similar.
