I wear a size 13 in American shoes and I believe 289 in Korean. I've recently discovered the wonder that is Gmarket for cheap clothes and was wondering if this site or any others have shoes in my size. It would be nice not to have to drop 100,000+ won every time I need a pair of shoes. |

13US does not equate to 289 in Korean. I too wear 13US and can just squeeze into Converse Chuck Taylors sized 300 (they run large). Most other shoes I'm looking at 320-330 and those I would generally find in Itaewon. |

Ah, big shoes in Korea. I'll never understand Koreans and their tiny feet. I'm 5'5" and I still find it difficult to find shoes that fit me here. Most stores I go to max out at around 270. |

I think it depends on the shoe. I wear a 12 us and it varies widely here. Sometimes a 290 will fit, sometimes it will be too big, sometimes WAY too small.
point being, try it on in the store first (Itaewon) and then order it if it's cheaper. |

Ah, good thing I'm going to Seoul next week. Is there a designated 'shoe street' in Itaewon that's easy to find? Also, how are prices there? |

I forget the name but there's a good store in COEX that usually has 'western' sizes and a nice variety of shoes, too. The guys working there speak decent English too if that helps.
(EDIT: It's a sneaker store, they have Cons, Vans and a few other decent brands.) |

There's no designated "shoe street" in Itaewon. The shops that have shoes will have some displayed in the windows. Go to several places, try some things on, and remember to haggle. I doubt you'll find the shoes you have your heart set on; be prepared to settle. |

Haha, I guess its just a Downtown Daegu thing. They like to group a lot of the same stores in the same general vicinity. As a result we have a shoe street, a phone street, and a coffee street...
Don't have any expectations, just something on the cheaper side.
@metalhead: Where is COEX?  |

It's not just Daegu, throughout Korea shops of a feather stick together. Look at Yongsan electronics market in Seoul, eighty-bazillion electronics stores all selling the same thing clumped together. Itaewon is a bit of a special case.
For thirteens that aren't generic running shoes or neon Nike moon-boots, your best bet is Wangbal across the street from burger king towards the subway station a bit. They stock up to fifteen (my size, erk) and have pretty much everything from the aforementioned moon-boots to dress shoes and sandals. Just don't expect a huge selection of each kind. |
