So, I just accepted a job in Korea, and of course, I have to get an airplane ticket. But I'm not sure if I should get a one-way or round trip. My ultimate goal is to teach in Korea for 2-3 years, more if I like it. I'm not sure if I'll stay with the same school for all those years, but I know for sure that I'll stay in Korea for all those years. So it makes sense to get a one-way ticket right?

But, when I went to a travel agency, the agent asked me if I had all my paperwork ready to prove that it was okay for me to just get a one-way ticket. If not, I would have to get a round-trip ticket. Has anyone heard of that before? I thought that was strange because if I did land a new job, I could just do a visa run to Japan right? The date the E-2 visa ends, is that the date that I have to come back to the US?

Man, I am supposed to be leaving in less than a month and I already have the jitters because all these questions pop up. Please let me know what you guys think. THANKS!

If you have your (E2 / F-class) visa in advance of your travel then you do NOT need a round trip (or exit) ticket.

If you do NOT have a work/residence visa then you are required by (Korean immigration) law to have an exit ticket dated within 90 days of your arrival.

Thanks! That helped a lot. Plus, that was short and sweet. It makes sense now that I look at it. And yes, I will have my visa before I enter South Korea. Thanks again!
