|
|
I went to immi today and they gave me the year extension on the back of my Alien registration card. When I asked about how to get a new visa inside of my passport they said before I travel I have to submit a form to immi and get it approved, but there is no update for the visa that is already in my passport. He said something about how when I leave the country they will ask me if I'm coming back and I just say yes....
I'm really confused and I have a trip to the USA planned soon so I'd like to get the situation cleared up so I don't get stuck in the USA trying to come back for my second year in Korea.
I went to Suwon immigration. |

If they extended your visa on your ARC, no need for another visa sticker in your passport. Just do as the immi officer said. |

I think he was talking about a re-entry permit. You need that to return to korea and work if you leave the country for things like vacation.
information on re-entry permits here: hikorea.go.kr
As an american, you had a multiple entry given with your original visa, but after the first year you need to purchase a new one. 30 000 for single, 50 000 for multiple entry permits. Make sure you have one before you go home to the USA. |

Yes, I mean the re-entry visa. I can't click on the link you posted because it wants to install a program. Where can I buy this permit again at? If you could post the information in text form I would greatly appreciate it. |

you buy it at the immigration office you were just at. you could have just checked one extra box on the form that you filled out when you were there , paid the extra fee and got it. now you need to go back, fill out the same form, check a different box than the one you checked, pay 30 or 50 000w - depending if you want single or multiply entry permits - and youre good to go....just call 1345. its the immigration line that offers english service. they can explain it to you.
you could also buy it online at the site i referred you to....the programs it wanted to install are the standard korean online security programs. you'll also need to register an account at the site and have your internet banking certificate available to make the transaction.
likely, youll just want to go to immi office, but call that number for clarification. |

If you extend your stay the only thing that changes is the exit date indicated on your ARC (which governs your status of sojounn (your stay)).
Your PREVIOUS re-entry privileges do NOT carry over into the extension period.
IF you plan to leave (for vacation as example) and return you MUST get a re-entry permit before you do.
There are 2 options:
1) Get a single use re-entry permit. Cost is 30k won and can be done at the immigration counter in the airport before you leave.
This can also be done on-line but is best done at the airport.
2) Get a multi-use re-entry permit. Cost is 50k won and MUST be acquired from your local immigration office OR can be done on-line if you have access to a fax (for sending documents) AND the means to pay on-line.
