For those of you that surrendered your home country's license, how did you drive when you went back home for vacation? I really don't want to make multiple trips to the DL center as it's no where near my house. I've been driving here for about 3 years. Is it possible to get an international license from Korea? Have any of you done this? If so, how? |

I'm from NZ and I got a new licence made and then sent to the organisation that deals with international permit. Got both sent from NZ to Korea. They messed up not putting my motorcycle licence on the international permit, so a little pissed. |

Yes it is possible. The government just started issuing them to E-2 visa holders this year.
Just go to the Drivers Licence Agency and apply for one. I think it costs about 7,000 won. Bring your Korean licence, a picture, and your passport. |

If you are going home and require it, just go in and ask for it. Show a ticket out of Korea and they will dig it out of the box and give it to you. You do not need to re-surrender it when you return.
IF you are on a resident class visa you can get an IDL.
IF you are F2 then you simply go in with your passport, ARC, DL, passport photo and 7k won. Fill in an application and get it (while you wait).
IF you are E2 then there is (was) a restriction that you must have been in Korea for a combined total of MORE THAN 3 years before you can get your IDL. Application is the same as listed above (passport, ARC, D/L, photo, application and 7k won).

ttompatz, you were spot on.
I went to the Busan Drivers License office yesterday around 2pm. There were tons of people with no signs in English. I happened to ask a random person behind the desk about an international license. She handed me a piece of paper and told me to write my name, arc number, address, and sign at the bottom. She then asked me for my passport, ARC, and Korea license. She handed me an international drivers license within 3 minutes. It was 7.000 KRW. |
