Hi,

I just graduated from college with a B.A. in Political Science. I really want to work in South Korea but I speak English and have never learned Korean yet. Also, I don't want to teach, but it seems like the only jobs I can find for people in my situation are teaching jobs. Does anyone know of any companies or organizations in South Korea (preferably Seoul) that might consider me if I'm fluent only in English?? If so, what types of positions would these companies be hiring for that would not require me to know Korean?

Thank you so much for your suggestions!

I believe the job has to be one a Korean can't do in order for you to get a visa. So, apart from education, you're looking at specialist jobs in IT, engineering etc.. You could get a job in a Western company with offices in Korea and work your way up to those positions. You could go the diplomatic route, get into the foreign office, and work at your country's embassy. I know people who work for ESL publishers here that don't teach or speak Korean. Do you mind me asking why you're so keen to come here. Is it a tracing your roots thing or a partner situation?

I'm also interested in non-teaching jobs. I graduated with a degree in Asian studies and I'm searching for something in editing/proofreading or speech writing. These jobs seem along the lines of something a Korean "can't do" so it might be easy to get a position/visa for them.

It is rather difficult to find jobs online that aren't teaching related though. If anyone has any info at all, I'd greatly appreciate it. I've half decided already on just going to Busan with all the necessary documents, walking into some government buildings and just asking around for a job.

I'm actually pretty optimistic about this working - assuming I can just stroll into a place and say "Here's everything you need right here to give me a visa. I'll make your written English sound better than most American's."

I guess I'll just look for the tall buildings.

A word of advice. If you're going to get work as a proof reader/editor, don't have this as a written slogan.

As they might proof read, edit your slogan and then say

'I'll make your written English sound better than most Americans'' Wink
