Anyone out there know of any locals who have put in a private swimming pool? Naver/Daum leads have proven to be useless.
I've got a yard, baking in the heat, and I'm looking for a reputable local company to provide the materials and the end construction work.

I wish Jongnoguru was still here.

But seriously, if you happen to know where I can get paver stones for my driveway, preferably near Bucheon, let me know. And a screen door. I like to smell the magnolias when I'm baking indoors. The great danes love it too.

you're bashing a guy for buying a house? in the countryim figuring, right? if your ideal life is being stuck in the dirty nasty concrete hell, more power to ya guys. i for one would jump on the chance to get into a house. im also game on an invite once the pool is finally finshed.

Relax dudes....I realize that buying a house is a good financial investment. I was referring to the fact that once you've bought property here you're signing up to be stuck in Korea for quite a while. I have no doubt that he'll make a profit on his investment.

RW3...I'm hardly "full of anger"...I don't really care for Korea and am ready to move on, but you're reading far too much into what I write here. I am hardly obsessed with how people spend their money....I do get frustrated when people piss their money away though, such as your mate with the space-mobile car.

To the OP....depending on the size of your pool you should be able to build it yourself, especially if your wife is Korean...I don't mean that you literally build it yourself, but that you act as project manager and bring in the subs that you need to do the different parts of the project. This would be cheaper than bringing in a pool-specific company anyhow. There is a lot of information online on how simple building a pool is, especially if you build the pool out of cinder blocks and not out of gunite. Once you decide on the size of the pool and do some soil tests you just bring in an excavator to dig the hole to your dimensions, then you can probably lay the piping yourself or pay for a plumber if you prefer....next you break up cinder blocks and lay the chunks out over the bed of your pool to provide space between the re-bar and the ground. Tie a network of re-bar across the bed, resting them on these chunks of concrete....basically just a checkerboard style pattern, with 1-foot squares, and tie the re-bar at the intersections with wire....next, after you build the forms for the base of the walls, bend the re-bar up at a 90 degree angle so that you will have something to attach the cinder blocks to, tying the cinder block walls to the base. Clearly at this point you could call in a concrete contractor to lay the bed and the base of the walls....then pretty much any general concrete contractor will be able to build the walls for you with the cinder blocks (be sure that they run re-bar through the cinder blocks and fill the holes with concrete as the wall needs to be stronger than a standard concrete wall, but anyone who can build a wall can build a pool, be sure to punch out holes in the sides of the blocks in the necessary places to allow your piping through....then you have the concrete guys come back...and finish off the walls, which are then painted with a special type of paint....build a little shed for your pump, hook her up and you're good to go.

Anyhow....you can find much more detailed plans online, but it really isn't all that complex of a structure to build and half the time that you hire a pool company they simply just call in all these sub-contractors themselves and charge you double.

If all you want is a small whirlpool, this is something that you can definitely buy the plans for online for $50 and build it yourself....that might be a better plan anyhow because then you could afford to heat it for the winter.
