To everybody who talks about not using recruiters, where do you find the job postings to apply straight to schools? Looking thru Daves ESL and other job boards it seems most of the positions listed are advertised by recruiters and you have to go thru them to apply for the positions. Are there other job boards out there that some of you are looking at that have positions advertised straight from the schools? |

90 odd percent of schools do NOT advertise for direct hires because they don't usually have the time or resources to deal with a foreign hire.
The bosses don't speak English, the staff has no idea about the ins-and-outs of E2 visa processing, they have no idea how or where to advertise.
They hire recruiters to work in the middle.
UNLESS you speak Korean or have a very good network in Korea the chances of success when seeking a job, without using a recruiter, is pretty slim.
The ONE exception to this would be trying directly to one of the main government programs. They usually have direct job application via their respective websites.
Use the recruiters. There is no financial loss to do so. They speak the local language, have contacts that you won't and by using multiple recruiters you will largely expand the chances of finding a suitable position.

Unless you're here (which means that you've worked here once before), it's a bit hard to contact schools directly. There was a time when most of the ads on these job boards were directly from schools. Now the agencies flood the boards with multiple ads for their schools. It's a strategy they use to ensure that you they will get a lot of applicants and their competitors (and schools) will get fewer. Since schools don't really understand this, when they do apply, they don't get many applicants because they only placed 1 ad whereas agencies each placed dozens.
I think that more (most?) hogwans are not using recruiters. IF you're here, then a good method is to just go door-to-door and ask. You could also ask a friend to do it for you. |
