| saving money in Shanghai is difficult as there is so many restaurants and bars. Also a lot of women here want you to take them out on dates which can add up as they usually want to go to some place with western food for dinner and then a few drinks after that. |

That's pretty good- only 17 hours and 15 minutes/week. Sounds like a sweet gig! |
Not even that much, really. It's an average of 16 because you have to tack on the extra days that you have most months. But whatever. Something like that. |

I just arrived in Suzhou yesterday. Thirty minutes away from Shanghai by bullet train, clean, great food/bar options.
China is good and bad, you still get the stares which drive me nuts, the waiters/waitresses are worse than Korea even, but the benefits outweigh the bad (comparing it to Korea and depending where in China you are). |

No. It's the whole non-Korea thing. In Taiwan, which is not communist, what you pay in taxes is clearly defined. |

I'm on the brink of an offer i Shanghai, 15,000 AND housing. Lots of bonuses as well. Flight compensation, lunch money, etc. Is this a pretty sweet deal?
I'm basically just worried about leaving the familiar (most notably my girlfriend and friends). I hung out in Shanghai for a few days and liked it, though I could see the crowds wearing on me if I was involved in rush hour (at the same time, though, I've been in Seoul for a few years and New York for several years before that, so I'm kind of used to it).
Also worried about the summer weather. I hate hot weather. Seoul is killing me this year, and I imagine Shanghai is even worse. And no facebook/youtube would s uck, too.
Any thoughts?? Also, I thought it was pretty cheap but randomly expensive to go out (beer prices at bars, I mean). |

That's good. 15,000 plus housing. I could see that much without housing. Are you teaching? Seems high with housing. Unless you've got really good qualifications and/or your teaching hours are high at this job. |

My base is 22000 ( non esl job) and I pay 6500 for my place so quite similar to your offer. Shanghai is very fun on this amount. I sent about 4000 home to savings and live quite well on the rest. Also the quality of expat here is much better than the general english teacher in Korea ( not that there isnt some good people in Korea)
In Shanghai you can live cheap or go crazy and spend money if you want. Best to avoid places where you drink 60 rmb mojitos all night as a saturday can easily end up costing a 1000 rmb. Many cheaper places to have a drink and lots of happy hours around town. |

I made about 30,000rmb last month in Korea (in KRW, of course).
Including housing allowance, I make 18,000rmb every month.
Just saying. |
