I want to do some traveling and I'm curious as to which countries would be the safest for a woman traveling on her own. Of course I plan on using common sense and being aware of my surroundings, planning in advance, etc. I prefer to go somewhere that offers the least chance of me being robbed, raped, killed, or otherwise taken advantage of. Have any women out there done some solo traveling?

Yes, I've travelled Thailand and Bali alone and have never felt really scared. I heard most of Asia is pretty safe for women. I'm going to Phuket on Tuesday, and have no worries.

Central, western, and northeast Thailand is great.
The central Philippines are great too (Visayas region).
Most of Indonesia is fine for single ladies to travel,
Singapore and Malaysia (not including the border with Thailand) are also pretty safe and interesting.

It would be far easier to list the places that are not safe.

The far south and southwest part of the Philippines and adjacent Indonesian islands (current armed conflict with Muslim separatists).
The same can be said of the extreme south of Thailand and far north of Malaysia.
There are areas in the far west and north west of China that are still suffering from the effects of some nasty earthquakes and are not good places to be a tourist.
Parts of Tokyo can be rough.

That would be Singapore. In Singapore I would be more afraid of being arrested for something I didn't know about than being the victim of crime.

As far as danger goes, I refer to the travel advisories of the Canadian government found here: http://www.voyage.gc.ca/countries_pays/menu-eng.asp

Almost all the advice on there can be applied to all westerners. The countries with red asterisks beside them have warnings you can read about.
