I suspect that article was actually written in 2006 as a response to the English Spectrum controversy.

Here is a direct link to the article. To do that, right click on the article, select Properties, and then copy and paste from Address (URL).

Konglishman: Perhaps these bits in the article was the give-away for your supspicion:

This contrasts deeply with the stated aim of the Roh administration to become the "hub" of North East Asia a link between China and the Pacific Rim.

Yes, that and the reference to an English teacher website causing controversy due to a party.

Ah yes. The infamous Conor Purcell. Wasn't there a thread about him on these boards a couple years back or so? I suspect he's working for a red-top British tabloid by now... Laughing

Wow, seriously? I actually emailed Conor before coming to Korea. His articles were salacious but way more interesting than anything else being written at the time.

Dressed in orange prison-issue shirt and shorts, barefoot and shackled in leg-irons, a furious Mr Purcell was led in to Pathumwan Municipal Court in Bangkok yesterday, protesting that he was being unlawfully held.

Visibly angry at his detention, Mr Purcell, 29, a former soldier, refused to stand when told and then yelled at the judge that he would not accept the court's right to try him. ''Nobody in this country has authority over me,'' he said.

This article looks old. (S)Limelight closed about 3 years ago didn't it and then became the Hard Rock cafe which also closed didn't it? The guy who wrote it is Irish judging from his bio so not the Australian in trouble in Bangkok.

The writer's one of these guys who loves to have a go at drunks, whores, sleaze merchants, etc... while of course being someone of clean living, upright character who has never taken illegal substances, been drunk and offensive in public or tried to cop off with someone he shouldn't have done in a nght club.

Some of his writing isn't up top much either. 'Urine coloured jewellery'? You mean gold jewellery? 'Cartoonish waitresses?'

Actually I just read Conor Purcell's blog. That's not him. That's some Aussie who has the same name. Conor is Irish and he's working for a paper in Saudi Arabia.

Eh; I think he was just getting some stories in while saving some money. It looks like he works for a real paper these days. I first contacted Connor because he'd done an interview with a red-light district prostitute and I was wondering how he'd done that.
