SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea said on Saturday it would begin a "sacred war" against the United States and South Korea at "any time necessary" based on its nuclear deterrent, in response to "reckless" military exercises by the allies.
"The army and people of the DPRK will start a retaliatory sacred war of their own style based on nuclear deterrent any time necessary in order to counter the U.S. imperialists and the South Korean puppet forces deliberately pushing the situation to the brink of a war," the North's National Defense Commission said. |

I wonder how they excuse their own drills. |

NK will not start an all out war, only skirmishes. If they do, it's the end of their regime. |

Agreed. It makes sense politically for them to ratchet up the tension further with a couple of naval skirmishes. Help to unite the people under athe new incoming leader. Beyond that neither side will be willing to escalate into full-scale conflict.
Sure the rhetoric has reached a new height but its only words. |

The fact that the US just sent Hilary and Gates here tells me they are not that worried about NK actually attacking. They know how many American civilans are here and if they had any inkling that NK was going to make good, they would issue a travel warning or something. So, I agree with everyone else, NK is notorious for bluffing, and this is no different. |

Maybe, it is just my imagination, but it seems like everytime that the US and South Korea hold joint military exercises or something else of that nature, North Korea threatens to make a "sacred" war and never follows through. |

Maybe, the North Korean government should hire an English editor in order to make sure that threats of war remain consistent... |

Sacred? Holy? I thought commies didn't go in for religion. I wonder why they'd employ such terminology? |

"sea of fire' was a good one but lost its sharpness over the years by repetition.
Thats when they added "reduce seoul to debris, not just set everything on fire" to add more edge.
They've already used "unprecedented nuclear strike", so there's not much left in the dictionary to escalate things further. |
