So I'm staying for another year and in order to do so, I'll need to get another medical check/exam done. The thing is, I have no idea where I can get one since my first one was done at the orientation site. If you could help point me in the right direction, it would be awesome! Thanks in advance.

BTW, I'm located in Nowon-gu, Seoul. The closer, the cheaper, the better!

Just about any clinic can do them. Go in (with a Korean friend if necessary) and ask if they can do the tests.

Your school should have given you a form and suggested a hospital. You can take the form to pretty much any hospital and be OK. If they haven't given you a form, ask for one. Should cost between 30k/50k, or at least it has for me.

Thanks but that's the weird thing. My coteacher told me that she called a few hospitals that are closer to my school and none of them do it. Kinda frustrating.

Most smaller 'hospitals' (called by koreans, but clinics to most of us) dont offer the tests required. Almost any large (real) hospital can do it for you. Every hospital uses a different form for the physical check, the hospital will supply it. Just have your CT write you a note in korean describing what you need and the specific tests that are required. Take it with you to the hospital and give it to them. They will lead you around and get everything done after that. Expect to pay 50 000 won, give or take 10 000 or so and it takes usually 1-3 days for the results.

Alternatively, you could call 1345 on your cell phone while at the hospital and ask them to talk to hospital staff to tell them what kimmi requires for the health check. (1345 is the immi information hotline)

Provincial offices of education (POE's) require their teachers to have a health exam every two years, unless your CT is a newbie (and even then, she prob submitted one to get hired), she has had one done not too long ago. Ask her where it was conducted. Basically the only differences between a korean teachers health test and your health test will be the addition of an HIV test and drug testing on your exam.

I didn't need it last time I renewed. The immi guy wanted a new criminal check though. Then after I got it issued the VISA without even seeing it. Rolling Eyes

Your school should be able to give you a form that has the check you need. Take it to the biggest hospital you can find and keep putting the form under peoples' noses until you get what you want.

When I go to immi, I let them ask for documents. Usually they don't ask for crim check (I accidentally left a copy of the check in the stack of papers) and the med check. The more documents you hand over, the more likely they are to find some retarded problem with your documents.

I also do the same, but I make sure I have every document that is required and then some......even if the doc is not required (and you know it), but they ask for it, they can and will turn you away. Dont bother arguing with them, they wont even look up the requirements and supervisors will back them up - they just stick to what they said even if its wrong. Making a fuss will help them to remember you the next time so stay cool, say thanks, and walk out. Just come back the next day and make sure your sitting with a different attendant or even go to a different kimmi office.

A+ advice.

The dude I had screwed me because I wanted some proof that my VISA had been renewed. (I've had problems getting on planes, as after renewing, you have zero proof that you actually have a valid VISA). A stamp on the VISA sticker or something. The best he could do was (begrudgingly) sell me a new CRC. Then "Oh no! You only have a copy of your CRC! Not the original (which we actually kept when we issued the VISA 2 years ago.) Mad

thanks for the info guys. Turns out there's a big hospital by my school but it will cost me 83,000won. that's a whole lotta cash. So i'm just thinking about going elsewhere where I know is cheaper.

How long does it take to get my visa extended?

I'm leaving Korea on the 7th for vacation. I still do not have my school certificate or my signed contract (supposed to get them pretty much NOW but my handler is conveniently on vacation herself this week). Do they hold onto the passport for a few days? Do they just slap on a sticker and I'm good to go? Help.

They just write a notation with a new exit date on the back of your ARC card. They dont do anything to your passport. It takes just a few minutes. DOnt forget to buy a new re-entry permit (single or multiple) before you leave or you will re-enter korea as a tourist after your vacation and you'll have to start the visa process from scratch again. You can get it the same time you extend...30 000 for single, 50 000 for multiple (the re-entry permit sticker goes in your passport, they also do it during your visit - no waiting)
