|

I Have a few days off next week and don't have any big plans as I really don't have all that much money to blow at the moment.
I was thinking about going to check out Chinatown in Incheon but wasn't sure if it was worth it?
What is all over there? Is it a good place to make a day out of?
I tried doing some searches but didn't really get any good information about it.
Any information is much appreciated. |

There are certainly a lot of Chinese food restaurants as well as cheap souvenirs to be had. When I was there on a Saturday they had a little parade every half hour or so. I don't know if it's every day or not.
There is a big park which nicely overlooks the bay and I think there is supposed to be a museum on the other side, but I didn't explore that much. |

The park is nice and there are a number of restaurants, but don't expect too much. Its only 1 street and a short street at that, you can walk it all in under 10min |

ICN chinatown is nothing too special. You won't get a full day out of it. Maybe an hour or two if you check out Macarthur's statue. |

Chinatown, then Jayo Park with the MacArthur statue and finally the Wolmido area, site of the famous Incheon Landing. Can all be done in a day. |

The Korean War Museum is worth checking out too. It's down the road a little ways from Chinatown, in Songdo I think. |

I've been there twice. No one speaks Chinese, they sell Korean-Chinese food, what Chinese food have you fellows been eating there, pray tell? |

The news ran a story not too long ago about the dumplings in Chinatown-- they're supposedly "authentic." The mother-in-law keeps insisting that we make a trip there so we can buy some. |

There's a very popular place for street dumplings that are definitely like nothing you'll find anywhere else in Korea. They received a lot of attention on TV earlier in the year. Anyway, my wife insisted we try them and we both ended up with terrible food poisoning. There was a 15 minute wait in line to get in an order, so I'd imagine there were a lot of unhappy people that night. |

Are you sure it was the dumplings? |

It could've been something else we ate that day, but our lunches were different. I started to feel ill shortly after eating it, and had to stop to throw up twice while driving home. I'm positive that it wasn't a stomach virus either. |

Just want to add that I went a few weeks ago and thought it was a waste of time. Maybe if you've never been to China itself....yeah.
I know now that there are restrooms in front of the subway station, but I didn't find that very helpful when I a) didn't know they were there b) was dying to go and c) had already hiked up the hill in 30 degree heat. The restrooms around the main CT street were gross, and scary. Just a warning to you - best to go at the station
Some of the restaurants looked ok but not really suitable for eating at alone. I happened to be alone that day and ended up at the worst looking and worst tasting (I'm sure) restaurant in the place (because people were eating there alone, and they had a bathroom!) The reason I say they didn't seem to be good for eating alone is the menus on the walls were all for buffet and set-menu type food. Or Ja-jang-myon ~ yick. I love jam-bbong but not in the heat. So for me, the food wasn't worth going for.
And the souvenirs...TACKY. I always have a hole burning in my pocket but there wasn't anything remotely worth buying to me.
Oh - and the restaurant I went to didn't have any non-chinese workers. they couldn't speak English and their Korean was BASIC. Definitely authentic chinese peeps.
My verdict: waste of time. Then again, I only went because it came highly recommended by a friend. Go figure. |
