So has anyone bought running shoes from a store in Seoul before or can recommend a good place? Your help would be much appreciated. |

You've been in Korea for at least 5 years and don't know where to get running shoes?!? |

Yes that's right because I'm an idiot who has lived here for five years and have never needed a pair of running shoes because the ones I have now haven't needed replacing up until this time.
There are a million places in this country with a million equally unhelpful shop assistants who will just shove a pair of shoes in my hands and say, 'here good' just to get me out of the door because they are scared of whitey. Hence why I am asking for a recommendation for a decent running shoe store with helpful staff that won't do that.
But thank you anyway for replying to my topic with your insightful and intelligent post which ended with a rolling eye smiley. You are my favourite person on this website and I can see we will get along famously. |

Why would I go looking for running shoes when I don't need them? And I do know enough Korean but that still won't change the attitude of the shop staff now will it? So if you actually have nothing good to add go and join your mate Epik douche teacher in a big clap hands I can annoy people on the innernets sesh. |

Where is it that you might find a shoe salesperson who is too "scared of whitey" to have a ocnversation with them in Korean? I've found that even using a modicum of Korean with a normal/calm demeanor gets results every single time. Of course, someone who goes online and calls strangers "douchebags" probably has a hard time getting results every time. |

i'll be a nice guy here, if the op is getting into running etc after 5 years here good on him.
ok there are nike, adiddas, new balance, and reebok stores in itaewon that have some styles up to us size 12, there is also an athletes foot and a brand spanking new abc shoe mart that just opened today.
worst case is order a pair from a place back in the states have them shipped to your folks etc have them resend them to you here, usps is $41 for a priority mail. had to do that last winter |

Go with a Korean shoe made by a dedicated runner / ultra runner. BJ Park speaks perfect English and was a BATA rep around the world for years. Now makes his own shoes. Call the number at http://www.ohmyshoe.com/ He'll ship you a pair for 60,000 next day. Tell him David the cnd ultrarunner sent you.
You might also visit The Runner's Club, near Jangjae station in Seoul. http://www.runnersclub.com Helpful staff, real runners and friendly, professional.
Good luck running...
Cheers,
DD

PS. if you do ship over shoes from the States - make friends with someone in the military. They get the shipping free. Best site is Zappos http://www.zappos.com/ |
