So I'm finally headed to Korea on Saturday after an application process that's lasted longer than 2 months and I can't help but to be paranoid even though I probably should not worry. I would smoke marijuana (not a heavy user, and not light either, average 2 or 3 times a week) back in University but I have not touched it since graduating and moving out of college. That was 3 months ago. Would I be safe for both the urine and blood test, or whatever procedures that they do? I've abstained for 3 months, but I have been around some people and watched them smoke while being outside with them. I wouldn't get anything second-hand, would I? Anyways, I know I'm probably overreacting, but I just wanted to make sure so that I have a bit more pleasant flight. =)

Thanks people

Second hand smoke could show up on a drug test, depending on the situation. Go to Rite Aid, Walgreens or a local pharmacy and buy a home drug test (urine). Hopefully that will help you with your worries.

You're fine. No way second hand smoke from outside would show.

You should be fine, but I second getting a drug test to alleviate your fears.

Actually I just read the medical exam section and it says there's going to be blood test. What now? It's not like I can go do a blood test by myself at home right and there's no time for me to go to the doctor since I'm leaving on Saturday. If I go to the pharmacist and do a urine test for myself, and the results aren't positive, would that mean I'd be clean as well when I get blood tested over there?

According to at least one source, they haven't required testing E2s for marijuana since 2008: http://blog.esldaily.org/2008/04/07/korean-e2-visa-drug-test-pot-free.aspx

The government doesn't require it anymore, but I guess that doesn't mean your employer won't require it.

It was completely out of your system after the first month. You have nothing to worry about. Unless you trying to inhale the second hand smoke it doesn't contain enough thc to meet the threshold to show up on a test.

What are you talking about? Are you saying foreign teachers are bringing weed into Korea? If yes I agree with you. But, I think most foreign teachers are likely to be consuming weed they procured within Korea. how is that different to a Korean smoking weed?

Making this a "what Koreans want" debate is completely disingenuous. Koreans smoke weed too, you know? Besides, drug policy in the west is swinging firmly towards anti prohibition. We will probably have legalized weed by the end of next year and all drugs by the end of the decade. Korea will follow suit soon after, I have no doubt.

Disclaimer: I in no way endorse breaking the laws of the Korean land.

Well, it actually depends, despite what all these goons are saying.

I decided by mistake, to smoke two huge ones that I learnt to roll on my own about 3 days before leaving for Korea - I'm not even a smoker of weed it was just a one off. The drug test I had within about 2 weeks of being in Korea and I came out fine.

However, This is largely because I don't smoke it in general. The more you have a pattern of smoking it in your life, and the more of it you smoke over that time, the longer it will stay in your system. So hardcore potheads could be looking at... a year. I don't know what the rates are but it varies a lot.

3 months of average smoking SHOULD be ok though. I wouldn't be as confident as these guys to say 'you will be fine'. But I'd say you are 82% fine (margin of error: 3.7%)

that's the exact opposite of what you want to do, especially if you used to be a regular smoker

nothing worse than flashbacks from thc still stuck in fat you never burned, that's the fastest way to fail it

alright, thanks people. but i'd still like to know if I did a urine test by myself whether those results would be the same as those of a blood test.
