| Hello, I would like to learn some of the advantages/disadvantages for working within each system, and which setting you would prefer to work in. Thanks! |

if you cant find it do a google search
what do you want? what benefits are you after? what working environment do you want to be in?
if you can answer these questions then you will answer your own question |

advantages of the 학원
■ no so-called co-teachers politicking against you
■ no classroom teacher barging in and translating everything you say
■ smaller classes
advantages of the 학교
■ free meals
■ Korean conversation practice in dealing with adults who don't know English
■ vacation time |

Schools in my city charge their teachers, but only about 3,000/day.

If you're out of Korea it might be safer to pick a public school. If you're in-country and can investigate the potential hogwon, then that might be a good route.
But I think that public school teachers should get experience in a hogwon before trying the large public school classes. If you go straight to a public school I think it will be more difficult than starting at a hogwon. |

Public school:
Much less work on average.
- Little to no marking.
- Less total classes a week.
Better class control
- Public school isn't a business like privates are. Their first concern
is building their student base. You're more likely to blamed if a
student is misbehaving or not listening. Students can just move to
a new hagwon if they don't like it there, so it's hard to make them
accountable.
Most of the people I've met here in the last two years that worked private, changed to public for their second year. I'm sure some privates are excellent, this is just my experience. |

I'd love to see more opinions about this, as I'm pursuing public schools as a newbie. |

Depends on what level, the characters in the class and the willingness of your Korean co-teacher to step up and discipline them. |

As another poster noted, this has been asked a thousand times...
Honestly, I think Dave should update the terms and conditions and have a legally binding condition that anyone who asks this question commits themselves to signing a contract to work at Wonderland for a year or two... |

Amen.
All of my classes behaved except for one smart aleck fifth grade class and one smart aleck sixth grade class.
In both classes, the homeroom teacher walked out as soon as I came in and stayed out the whole time.
My so-called co-teachers, on the other hand, were always willing to breathe down my neck the whole time.
The more I think about it, the more I think the fifth and sixth grade teachers were plotting to get rid of me.
Maybe it's just as well, because I'm happy in the job I have now and I don't miss public school one bit. |

The search function on Dave's is a bit difficult to use as it often messes up when doing multi-word searches. You really need to search this forum visa Google or another search engine. |

Then instead of wasting your time writing snide remarks, why don't you do one of the following
-skip over the thread. you aren't obliged to read all of them.
-give the OP the answer he's looking for (with all those other threads on the topic that you've read, you must be able to summarize it very well)
-give him links to those other threads asking the same question
