I believe Customs will put an import tax on it if it's over $150 for product and shipping.

Actually, I believe the magical customs tax number is W150,000 rather than a USD based number.

You can currently get one for 300K on gmarket. If that comes down to 200K, I might get one there.

Please post on your experiences with customs, those people who bought one from Amazon. It would be really nice to get it from there.

from my personal experience, as long as the cost of the item is declared under $150, customs usually doesn't bother with it.
I just bought a new xbox slim and it was declared at $140 (shipping was $80 and clearly displayed on the box) and wasn't even inspected.

the cost of shipping doesn't matter, and would make any sense to include as it's already a sunk cost and doesn't determine the value of the item and therefore usually isn't tariffed.

I'm no expert on the matter, but even with it getting taxed, it's still under the $200 mark and a great deal.

I'll find out soon enough as I ordered one.

The cost of shipping DOES matter:

Before shopping online, it is important to note that the advertised price on a seller's web-site is not always the same as the total price that you might end up paying. It is because if the total value of the goods (the purchase price plus freight and insurance) exceeds 150,000 Korean won (about US$ 120), you need to pay Customs duties and taxes.

What % customs do you pay?

I will probably still get one, as long as the price stays under 200K

That's the complicated part, almost every type of electronic device has a different categorization. Most taxes are in the 10-25% range, but there are some flat taxes and some 100%+ taxes on individual items out there.

Wow, dicey.

You can get one for 230K off gmarket. It would be a pain in the ass having to pay 100% ransom to get your new toy released. Even 25% tariff is only just worth it.

Damn you, free trade eschewing philistines!!!!!!!

Maybe it's the old version. Kindle 299,000 is the first thing that pops up when you search for "Kindle". Kindle DX is the second thing. I'm sure it will only be a matter of time before the new one pops up.
